Why only one light on?

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me why only one light is on?

I am used to parking lights being controlled by the indicator - but this has a life of its own.

It's to do with your cornering lights, turn the steering wheel either way , which will light up the corresponding fog light for better visibility.

Lovely picture though ... that's not Hampshire!

Or Sussex.

Could be Essex

I get why cornering foglights are offered, but IMHO they are far more fashion over function.

There, I said it.

I have a pothole-riddle 90-degree turn into our road and they're great for seeing into the bend at low speed and avoiding the nastiness. :)

I have to say. If you live outside a town where there are no street lights, the cornering fogs do aid in seeing the corner of the junctions.

It might not be noticeable in streetlite streets

Ahh. The steering wheel! Thank you - hadn't thought of that one.

The pic was taken in the Yorkshire Dales while on holiday there two weeks ago - and where the the cornering lights proved to be a great help.

It's not only dark rural roads where cornering fogs come in handy.

Our local council has decided to turn off all street lamps at night, between midnight and 7am.

The lights at major junctions on main roads are left on for safety.

To my mind this creates nice dark streets with loads of parked cars for the vandals and thieves to have their way with!

It depends on where you live, though. Like others I find them extremely useful.

Try driving up the steep, unlit, narrow and unmade hill to my house, around two hairpin bends, and you'll realise they're quite useful.

Oh yes they are!!

I find them very useful for 'winking' at SWMBO when she's looking for the car!

I have seen these on many other makes of cars but I still have the occasional well meaning citizen inform me that I have faulty lights.

As an aside, my son (for the first time) was the car just as it was getting dusk but before the auto-lights kicked in. He said how good the LED lights looked (DRLs) and wondered what all the other lights were for - he was amazed that what he thought was dipped beam was actually DRLs! I know they're good but I didn't think they'd get mistaken for dipped beam - good old Benzinfabrik for supplying them and this Forum to maki g me aware they were available - just need decent bulbs in the fogs now!!
