My vRS Detail :)

Featured Replies

Well, here's a nice little update after quite a period of inactivity! Yesterday I had my vRS detailed by Barry at AutoDetox and I have to say, I'm very impressed with the results after just one day! I've got all the photo's he took and then a couple of my own from my phone that I'll pop up here now. One thing I will say is that I won't do a 'write up' as such because I wasn't there when he did it! But I'll add in any comments wherever I want, because I'm cool like that.

When I dropped it off:

After being washed:

Then the clay came out:

Time to fully inspect the extent of the damage of the previous owner:

As you can see, the paintwork wasn't in the greatest of shape! So, time to get to work on it:

IMG_5960.jpg

Then the all important gtechniq complete protection package optional extra:

And then the finished article:

And that's it! I'm over the moon with how it's turned out after only a day, it looks a completely different colour! And the gtechniq treatment means that it'll last as well, so it was definitely worth spending that little bit more as it'll mean it wont just go back to what it was like before in a couple of months!

All in all, money well spent! I've bought a new badge for the front grill that I'm fitting tomorrow (probably), so it'll all look nice and shiny!

I can understand not wanting to spend hours cleaning your car, but at the same time, using a wash mitt instead of a sponge doesnt require any extra effort, nor does it cost much more, but your pain wi

  • If you just use a bucket and a sponge(BTW NEVER use a sponge!!!! Get microfibre or sheepskin) then it will be scratched to buggery by now anyway

lol! Well the guy who did it is a family friend so I got a tiny discount (he really can't offer discounts as he does it with very little profit anyway for what he does!) and it cost £200 for the actual detail, then an extra £100 for the full g-techniq treatment (which is certainly worth the money!) I actually had it detailed a few weeks ago now and have only just had chance to post this up in here and the g-techniq makes it SO simple to look after etc.

Me, my Dad and my brother have all had our cars detailed by Barry and he's definitely worth the money! But I suppose you can see that from the photo's anyway!

Looks good, no denying that, but personally I wouldn't spend £300 on having it done neither would I spend the time doing it myself. Don't get me wrong, I wash mine every two to three weeks [with a bucket and a sponge!] and like it to look clean and I give it a polish once or twice a year but as for anything else, I just coudn't be bothered!

That is top work! £300 to get it looking as it did when it rolled out of the showroom is not that bad, considering how much people pay to get supaguard, lifeshine, diamond brite etc. There is a lot of work goes into detailing a car. Its all about the wash routine now mate, 2 buckets etc etc. Im sure you know the score. Congrats on the car, and pass on my compliments to auto detox, g techniq is my next line of products I think!

+10000000000000000000000 :( evil sponge

Great price tbh and very worth it for a professional to machine polish it

Looks fine to me, but then I'm not anal about it. Thanks for the advice but I'll stick with my sponge.

Excellent results!

Been using the raceglaze waffle sponge for a couple of months now. Not noticed any swirls, still using the 2 bucket mwthod. The regular ones arent great but mine seems fine. Heard good things about the zymol sponge too. It holds onto the suds more but doesnt get into the nooks and crannies as well as a mitt. But I snow foam and go around with a detailing brush as a pre wash.

Sorry to stray off the topic a little

Bucket and sponge? Far too much like hard work, all you need a a very powerful jet wash, does the job in quarter of the time.

Last winter before I got my new vrs I had the Eastern Europeans in the car park at Tesco do it. They did a pretty good job for 4 quid.

+1. Eastern Europeans inside and out for £12 - outside Argos and Homebase in St Albans - they do an excellent job.

Zymol it myself twice a year or so. Much as I would like to, don't have time to do any more!

The OP's car looks fantastic. Was extremely tempted by Race Blue when I bought mine. SWMBO wanted something less 'showy' though, so went for Silver. Have been very, very pleased with Silver. Q-car feel.

The car looks amazing with a great shine, the only thing about pro valets is the use of machines to polish the cars, next to tha cars they look great till you step away from the car or see it at night time you can see the buff lines from the machine, so it don't look that good. £300 for the total job i would pay that.

Not if done by a professional. I dare you to call a detailer a "Pro Valeter" to his/her face they are made of pure OCD and googly eyes!

You seem to have some issues...........I'm not anal either matey

You go ahead and use your sponge... :finger:

Have to agree note pic from above showing on left "Sponge mania" and on right what youd see after a lambs wool mitt or some micro fibreage. Harder to notice on a white car but will still be there. The basic logic has to be admitted the first bit of dirt that sponge moves its dragging it and the rest it collects along the way all over the surface of car. In my ownership I will not be passing on the amount of paint correction that was needed on AshGSmith's car as a sponge wont get near it!

BTW....Did you know that C1 is the same as C5?

The same product marketed as a different one

Never had a single scratch on any of my cars from using a sponge :finger:

Jesus, I didnt realise people still use sponges to wash cars, well not the people i`d expect to find on here anyway (IE people who care about there cars). :wall: Even more worrying thinking it isnt scratching your car lol, I can understand not being super anal about things, but using the right tools is a minimum really.

Not scratches as in a scratch that is visible from any angle through the paint, but micro scratches like you can see on the photos above.

They don't show up on white but are still there and still affect the shine.

They show up terrible on mine and also i used to have a Black Polo which was awful hence why i now have a machine polisher.

Over the years the car picks up scrapes a dints and dings and dents and scratches, who really cares what undetectable minute swirl mark might possibly be left my giving a quick wash down once a year with a sponge, sheesh get a life people.
