any ideas

thanks

I had a very similar situation to this on my old 07 plate Octavia - had all the discs and pads replaced during a service as the braking was getting poor. WIthin a couple of weeks I had a slight judder under braking but driving was generally normal. Had the wheel balancing and tracking checked but all was fine.

Pads and discs were checked and they reckoned the discs were slightly warped so replaced them under warranty for a new set - but again I noticed the slight judder hadn't gone. What i was feeling through the pedal and the car, was the brakes fading on and off very slightly but noticeable.

After much deliberation by the garage and lease company, they had the car for a week to assess it and low and behold the garage owner (ex Rally Driver) could also feel something so I knew it wasn't just me. After much testing and assessment they deemed a fault within the ABS system, with the ABS pump at fault?

As the car had gone past lease end date and had done 135k we decided to let the lease company take it back.

Not saying this is the same fault as you but just sounds familiar.

...or it could be just a case of slightly warped discs.

It's ur discs for sure!

Definitely the discs.

Had the same problem with my old MK1 Octavia vRS where I think the snow was rapidly cooling the discs and then rapidly warming up under braking which warped them.

It need not be as extreme as warping. If you do not use the car very frequently it is very easy for salt on the pads to create an uneven layer of oxides on the disc. I had this last winter and it took a long time to wear down again. My symptoms were exactly the same going from your description.

Do a series of firm 70 to 10mph (not quite) stops on a clear DC and see if that helps
