Skoda "Mission L" to go into production in June

Featured Replies

The final version of the "MissionL" concept car will go into production at the beginning of June this year.

It's not sure what it will be called yet but it is expected to be a name from the past. Rapid, Popular, Felicia??

The production and journalists test drives will strangely happen before it's motorshow debut at Paris in September (politics). The same will happen with the Octavia 3 which will be presented in the final quarter of this year but will not make it's motorshow debut until Geneva 2013.

Final production MissionL is supposed to be virtually the same as the concept bar a few details (I guess it will have normal door handles, less glitzy lights, plainer interior and smaller wheels) The basic shape is nice though and IMO sharper than the SEAT Toledo which is a rebadged version of the Skoda.

Looking forward to seeing the final version!

I doubt it would use the Rapid name, due to the four door Aston-Martin of the same name.

I also think that Popular would be out as that is just asking for trouble from a marketing point of view,as would bringing back the Favorit name after 16 years (even if it works for the Superb, although it is a fairly low seller).

Felicia, maybe. It could even be called the Estelle, although there are possibly too many memories of the old rear engine model.

Of the options I prefer Felicia.

Rapid should be reserved for a 2 door coupe. Interestingly the Skoda development boss talked this week of there being a gap in the market for an affordable 2 door coupe. A fastback version of the Mission L would be a pretty nice looking car IMHO :)

According to WhatCar it will be called the Rapid.

As far as I'm aware, the current four door Aston Martin is called the "Rapide". I saw one of these on the M6 a few weeks ago and it looked stunning.

So was the Skoda wasn't it? If memory serves it started life as the 110LS (twincarb 1100cc 3 door version of the 110L) then became the Rapide when the 110 became the Estelle. Then became the 136 when Skoda gained political freedom & went to Porsche for it's engine mounts & VW for it's engine management. I may be wrong tho?!

:D Totally wrong!

Not a bad looker, but where's the Tudor? :)

If its called the Rapid then they bloody well better sort some decent engine options....will be a bit egg on face if their engine ranges are along the lines of 1.2 tsi

Lets pray for a high torque/bhp diesel turbo

Anyway TBH on reflection, I'm totally uninspired by the Mission L it just looks like an Octavia update

The MissionD (Correction: Vision D) or the original coupe Joyster were far more exciting propositions IMO and would be more likely to seek my investment, although something even more radical would be nice

Sounds like they have dropped the joyster concept name as this is being used to describe that godawful CItigo thing when released in India....real shame for people like myself who value a nice sexy motor that was more aspirational (e.g. styling more towards the AudiTT/Scirocco market) than just a box people carrier.

I would like a VisionD too but that is esentially the same as a MissionL with the boot chopped off anyway.

Engine range will likely be:

1.2 HTP 75BHP

1.2TSI 85BHP

1.2TSI 105BHP

1.4TSI 125BHP

and 1.6TDI in a few states of tune.

I wondered when you'd be along to correct me Dave! :giggle:

It looks ok but a little conservative in my opinion. I can see a resemblance to the current Merc C Class saloon so maybe that was a model...

I've owner 2 skoda's from new, the original mk1 fabia then the mk1 fabia vrs

Having had a taste for how good it can be (with the fabia vrs, plus the excitement generated surrounding it) I'd be hard pushed to see the same interest for buying another and possibly only at a push because I'd need to change and combined with low prices/vat deals etc.

I was not really sold on the mkII fabia vrs. Neither is the octavia etc. If anything I've clutched at straws and find the novelty of the yeti closer to me if it wasn't for the appeal to higher prices and likely company drivers.

There is a bit difference between a booted car and something more approximating a sports coupe. Disappointing.

Is that really it? If you'd told me it was a Mondeo or Saab on test from a couple of years ago I would've believed you........

Looks exceedingly similar to an Octavia. Would they produce two cars of similar size and shape?

Cant wait for the new Octy.

Remember the Rapid will be similar in size to the current Octavia, where as the mk3 will go into the size of the class most people compare it with anyway - the Mondeo. So will add upto 600mm in length.

Which shoves the Mk3 to Superb size, which again will be moving up the sizes when the Mk3 of that comes along.

Interesting. Will await news on vRS models.

You will see pictures before the end of the year :)

According to a guy from my local dealership, Skoda are not going going to be pandering to its older siblings in the future so the new Octavia vRS is set to be more powerful than its VAG equivelants this time around.

So there will be even more embarrassed Golf and Audi owners on the road when they get beat by a lowly Skoda! :giggle:

Like the Octy1 RS :)

TBH those spy photo's of the Rapid are not exactly inspiring, in fact it looks very boring.

You can buy one here :)

Lol Babs :)

It's true! Audi nicked the design as they (correctly) thought it would sell more with an Audi badge on the front.
