VRS yesterday and forgive me for saying, the Skoda looked pretty whimpy in comparison ....

In the same way angelina jolie looks wimpy next to fatima whitbread?

Comparing the vRS to a Clio 200 is silly. The only difference between the Clio 200 and the Clio Cup race car is a roll cage.

and you're point is ?

Although give it 5k miles and the clio would have broken down... then lets see who's whimpy lmao! and to be honest the clio 200 cup 0-60 aint that much quicker then the VRS alls you have to do is spend £400 on a map and the VRS will munch that up for breakfast :)

The Clio is a proper junior hot hatch, in all respects. The Fabia vRS is a warm hatch with not the best suspension setup or handling characteristics.

No contest really. Although the same with all larger-engined N/A hot hatches, you have to work them very hard. But if you do, you'll be quite literally running rings around the Fabia vRS and its ilk.

Straightline performance it punches above its weight but in every other respect its a warm hatch. I reckon it needs about £2k at it and it'll then be comparable with the cooper s and clio.

In a straight libe maybe. Plus tge vRS isn't famed for engine rdliability. Not heard of any RS200 issues yet.

You forgot the tall body to suit it's traditional customers. Mature folks with creaky knees, so it's easy to get in and out.

Certainly not ideal if you want to make it fast. It's a compromise, the Renault is less so.

Probably true. Although I have a feeling that 90% of the vRS owners were not seeking the ultimate handling/ track behavior but instead a comfortable everyday car with more than adequate spaces for its class, that runs pretty fast too. That been said I can't imagine why they would bother with the Clio in this thread... It's like waving a photo of a GT-R to an M5 driver. Don't you think he chose the M5 over the GT-R for a reason or that he couldn't care less If GT-R is quicker and better handling? All I'm saying is that despite the similar price and power, there 2 completely different cars.

Exactly right.

Still with a remap/tuning box, brakes, suspension and zanti roll bars(easily less than 2 grand) this car will be competitive on track as well. Perfect all rounder which is what a hot hatch should be

Also agree. One would be stupid to deny the Clio its way better set up as standard. Problem is, it's a lot more difficult to add 2 additional doors and some more space on the back and the boot of the Clio, than properly lower and remap the vRS :D

I'd chose the vRS over the Clio every time. Clio's good for handling yes, but the interior is not as good as the Fabia. Paddles and smoothness of the engine are great.

Personally I don't want have to keep me car at 4-5k revs for it to, as Journo's would say, "truly come to life". As a result, my MPG's would be rubbish!

Yes the Clio Cup looks better but as others have alluded to it's designed for a different customer where as the vRS has a more broader image.

Until the first bend, then the vRS is in the hedge whilst the Clio rounds the corner like it was on rails...

My Clio172 had one sensor issue in 6yrs of ownership..not bad for a French car eh...

Lol true before i joined SKODA i was with peugeot for 6 years and french cars are terrible, There was a new Recall set-up pretty much every week :whew:.

But what is the price difference between the clio200 and the VRS because surely 2k to sort fornt and rear shocks and springs and front and rear ARB (bilstein  ) would sort any handling issues with the VRS and a map and youve got an awsome piece of kit that the dressed up french maid cuddnt keep up with :hi:

Some what similar analogies in this... Focus RS v the Megane R26r

Normal every day car which is fast, against a stripped out every day car, which is also fast.. but doesnt have a radio etc!

Ye but the focus has radia/cd player ect. and is still better handling and more BHP then the megane, and don't forget the megane R26r is a special edition and there is also a special edition Focus rs called the RS500 which is 350bhp as Standard which just blow the megane outta the water :giggle:

Ive kept up with a clio in the bends no problem and left a few mine has coils on it and a rarb so handles pretty well. Ive even found mine is faster top end on the motorway. But i have a forge intercooler + intake and jetex catback (193 bhp) aparantly.

I would love a clio as a second car though just need somewhere to put it.

Very much so. I'd love an RS, but im going over to the Evo land once the fabia's run its course for a few years.

I think it depends what you want in a car.

IF you want something that can do everything and have fun, the fabia seems to be the better option. If you want flat out speed for a lot of track days, but something which can work day to day the Clio's probably your better option.

Renaultsport clios have always been faster than vRS's (Mk1 & Mk2) as this video proves.......

:p

Seriously though in standard form the vRS in straight speed will do alright against the 200 but get demolished in bends. Spend some cash on suspension, 312mm brakes and RARB and you'll be laughing. The vRS doesn't look as mean or intimidating in the rear view mirror BUT it's a wolf in sheeps clothing ;)

I agree the VRS is just more car the CLIO is track car desighn it looks good going round the track but looks a little bit silly sat on tesco's car park abit like a GT-1 car sat in mcdonald's drive-through it looks weird pretty much everywere except a track, were as the VRS just look's nice driving round slowly and sat inside its ideal for a nice drive-around and like i said and extra £2.5k and you've got best of both worlds

Edited by Kie

your have much more fun in a clio i wouldn't call the polo fun and im not sure 2.5k on mods is going to help it emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I agree fabia ibiza and polo all feel a little disconnected from the road.

And the brakes really need upgrading to match the clio's brembos but how often is anyone in a race with another car it can be dangerous and pointless on the road

i love my car as it is and will probably just get bigger brakes and a remap and be done with it.

The only place an extra 10th of a second matters is on the track.

theres only one way to prove this..............................FIGHT !!!!!

I nearly went clio when I chopped in my mk1 vrs. But chose the mk2 vrs instead, not sure what the real reasoning was to be honest.

me too only reason i got a vrs was because my previous Skodas have all been trouble free and generally fun enough. Sometimes I do wonder if I choose the right car but for the most I do like my VRS
