Car Broken Into :(

Featured Replies

Hi all,

During the week my pride and joy was broken into, everything was in the glove box and nothing on display. Basically smashed the rear window and climbed in through the window, Police were called and severall other cars had been done the same night.

However, the alarm did not go off... In the manual it says the car has an alarm... Any ideas as to why it didnt activate.

Thanks

Sorry to hear this mate. Hate hearing about this kind of thing, makes my blood boil! As for the alarm, do you press the lock key twice? As i think this turns the alarm/sensor off.

Sorry to hear about this. :(

Thanks for the sympathy! Absoloutely gutted and still am! When I lock the car I always press twice as I thought this alarmed and dead locked the car? What a fool I am!

Sorry to hear about this. :(

Thanks BossFox, on my drive overnight, nothing on display either so obviously took there chances. Got to go back to a standard head unit and go with the 'who would want to break into a Skoda' !!! :'(

Regards the double locking, that used to catch me out too.

On other cars I've had you had to press the lock button twice to ARM the alarm and set deadlocks.

Skoda (VAG?) seem to be the other way round.

It is a mistake I will not be making again thats for sure! On the brighter side, if there is one, they knew what they were doing and made a clean job. No damage to paintwork or interior and simply the case of a replacement rear quaterpanel glass section! and bye bye £75 excess.

Yup double pressing on VAG disables interior sensors AND deadlocks.

Deadlocks worked 100% they had to wind the back window down and actually climbed through the back window and back out the same way!!!

sorry to hear of your woes Fabia_19

The Skoda saleman told me to double press to deadlock - only when I checked tha manual after I joined here did I find out differently.

hope you get things sorted

Thanks Max, just running stereo less, hands free less and everything else at the moment! Its a pain in the ass, but im sure its happened to many others out there.

I certainly wont be double locking my car again!!!

Sorry to hear about your car getting broken into,I'm glad I read this thread as I've always double pressed the lock button as thats what I have to do on the Megane we have aswell. Will no longer be doing that from now on.

Not that its much use now but if you ever think about more security you can buy a security light called 'guardcam' made by esp. Its a outside security light with a built in camera which records to SD card, think you can pre record a msg too. My house is covered by a proper cctv system and the garage has bars behind it. (not that i live in a rough area, just very security conscious now)

Theft often happen in nicer areas as well, it's horrible. We are actually looking at getting CCTV cameras and already have security lights but it didn't deter them at all!!!

Yeah, i always find that the security lights help them see what they are doing. With the cameras you will have evidence maybe even they're faces as long as you get a decent system. Still doesnt change what happend and the sleepless nights as you worry about every little noise you hear!

I would just love to catch someone doing this. You're nicked mate.

Sorry about your car

Have you since tested the alarm? Lock it with a window down, then after a minute stick your arm in the car or something, try and trigger it. Could just be it's broken.

While it's annoying VAG are different with the not double locking, I think their way makes more sense as it's easier to forget to arm something than it is to remember to disarm IMO (does that make sense?!).

Either way, sorry about the car! Hope (but doubt) they'll get what's coming to 'em!

Ouch sorry to hear about this, on the positive note though glad they didn't do too much damage by sounds of it could have been worse if that is possible (unless I misread)

Jonny boy "You're nicked" is that the best they would get ?

I think I'd suggest something more initimidating along the lines of "do you have any final words"....or "I hope you've already had kids"....or perhaps, if I was feeling particulary evil "breath deeply, your air supply is limited :)"

What a nightmare. At least the damage only goes as far as the window.

Now i know to only press once then, I would have presed twice when i got my car

Hope you find out who's done it and give them a good seeing to mate!

Thats really bad to hear, very sorry about it. There are some careless people out there. only last week my girlfriend came out of her uni house to find her car along with every other car down the one side of the road had been keyed and believe me it was a long road. Makes me angry!

In regards to the key fob i was always convinced that you press twice however sometimes i use to lock the car pressing the button twice with my window down and reach through and grab something. in my old corsa sri the alarm would sound. the fabia however wouldn't. gonna try today and press the lock once. Be happy to know if it has one as down my street past 12 (midnight) all the street lights go off and it's very dark out!

Sorry to hear this.

It's exactly how our SDI was broken into.

Damn wind down rear windows.

It pi$$ed down with rain the night our break in happened and the interior of the car was

soaked as well as covered in broken glass to add insult to injury.

The SDI didn't have a factory alarm, just an immobiliser.

After the break in we had a Toad alarm fitted as well as paying for the window to be

replaced. Total cost to us about £400 inc the alarm.

All they took was a sat nav charger and some cds.

Hardly worth the effort really. There was nothing else in the car.

Mindless scumbags, sorry to read about this, hope you get it sorted out ok.

Gutted for u bud, hope u get it all sorted
