Which European destinations have you taken your Yeti too?

Featured Replies

As travelling is one my favourite past times I guess Im just intrigued as to where you have taken your cars. As Ive owned the car now for 24 months, it got me thinking; Ive visited a fair few countries in it already and probably done more 'foreign' mileage in it than on UK roads! This summer im taking it to the Czech Rep, Slovakia, Hungary, Bosnia, Montenegro (possibly skimming through Serbia), Croatia, Slovenia and Italy. B)

In the last two years mines been to:

France (x3)

Spain (x2) (Mainly the Costa Blanca region)

Belgium

Luxemberg

Germany (x3)

Switzerland

So where have you taken yours to? :)

I've only been over in the Yeti once and he went to France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Not sure when he'll go next or where to!

Scotland, Wales, England and, er, Cornwall.............

Not taken Yorkie abroad yet but God willing in June with the newly retired wonderwoman 25 nights away Hull to Zeebrugge then Luxembourg, Interlaken,Lake Garda, Zell am Zee,Idstein (nr Frankfurt) and back to Gods own county from Rotterdam on my 60th.

Belgium, France,Luxembourg,Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany and Holland.

Any tips most welcome, intend to try to avoid tolled motorways and if SWMBO allows to drive over the tops into Italy.

Cheers

Peter.

Scotland, Wales, England and, er, Cornwall.............

George................. ?

And what's the problem with Cornwall? At least they're Celts!!

Dewi has been to Northern France, mostly Normadie, and Brittany, (twice) and a quick blast through the ex British Calais bit.

Plus englandshire and Cornwall. :giggle:

Netherlands every day :hi:

Belgium and Germany on an weekly basis. Luxembourg next week and the UK beginning of next month.

BTW bad news for the booze-cruisers. Tax on tobacco went up in Belgium recently.

Took mine home to CZ for a couple of nights last summer via France, Belgium and Germany (no stops between home and CZ). Then down to Austria for a week before returning with a night stop in Germany.

Previous Yeti went on a couple of excellent trips to Wales; one organized by Graham.

Regards,

TP

I certainly dont do it as a booze run but thanks for the info :) The way we pack it to the gunnels, there would be no room for booze.

Looks like we have a few travel seasoned Yeti's on the forum. I find she's just such a great long distance cruiser, it would be rude not to take her overseas from time to time. :giggle:

No stops?! :o Blimey, that sounds like a proper slog. The most driving ive done is 12.5 hrs in a day... im guessing thats slightly more?!

St Albans to Portalegre, Portugal via France and Spain-home via Spain and the long ferry. 3 up outbound and 4 up home-an astonishingly comfortable and surprisingly economical long haul vehicle.

About 980 miles and 19 hours travelling time, with me as sole driver; I like my driving :giggle:

Did a similar distance drive back in 09 in our previous Golf V 4motion but that took about 22 hours, due to a longer wait for a train across, plus we went direct to Austria and the mountain roads can slow your progress.

The Yeti by the way, is the better long distance traveller than the Golf V :)

WOW! That's extreme. Most I've done was 25 hours but that was split into two full days of 12.5 hrs each ie with a stop over! Having said that, the reason I don't do more is for the sanity of the kids (who love the whole driving/holiday thing luckily enough!) :-) I'm aiming to keep this summers driving to 6 hrs a day as I'll be covering a minimum of something like 4000 miles on this one overall.

My longest leg of a journey-fuel/speeding ticket stops only- was 560 miles from western France to Salamanca in my old Leon Fr Tfsi on a previous Portuguese jaunt. It was gruelling and I had to stop because I was too uncomfortable/tired to go further.

I planned my Yeti trip with that experience in memory but could have driven further.

My best long haul car ever was a grey import, Toyota badged, Lexus 400. Coastal France to Cannes without any fatigue.

Snowmonster has been to France several times, even getting down as far as Monacco but thts all.

As per Freshacre......Scotland when she was a week old, I needed my passport.... and Cornwall.

Off to the Lakes tomorrow night.

So not out of the UK......can't afford the time off work....nobody will pay me if I don't work

Whilst I haven't taken a Yeti anywhere far I have done lots of miles all over Europe, I think I've driven to every country with the exception of Portugal, Belarus, Ukraine, Greece and Albania.

The route you mentioned is a good one, brush up on your Cyrillic alphabet if you're going to Serbia most of the signs aren't in English at all, and at the time my satnav didn't have the map!

I would thoroughly recomend driving down through Croatia stopping off whenver you want but certainly stopping at Dubrovnik and then continue South and head for the town of Kumbor and then follow that amazing road and then read over to the Skadar Lake national park. From there I head would head into the depths of Macedonia.

Make sure you take millions of photos and literally days worth of video, I regret not doing that with my trips and as a result I have so few photos and videos!

I've just got back from skiing in Val D'Isere - 1900 mile round trip by Yeti. Last winter I went to Chamonix, but hopped over the border to Switzerland and Italy a couple of times. Have also been to deepest, darkest Wales ... *ducking in anticipation of Graham throwing a leek at me*

It's alright Bob, we have much better uses for leeks than throwing them.

Creamed leek and chicken caseroulle (sp?)

Leek and potato soup.

However, we also have long memories, so we'll get you when you least expect it.

Graham - it's "cawl" - at least around Builth Wells.

On holiday in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus not recognised by the EU, but Cyprus is in the EU. Go figure.

Yeti gets lots of attention, not sure if it's even on sale here.

Three times to Austria (2 winter, 1 summer) via North Sea Ferries Hull to Rotterdam and then Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, a bit of France and Germany.

Trip number 4 coming up in 15 weeks (not that I'm counting!).

Yeti still seems to be a fairly rare beast on my travels.

Looking forward to the 140 DSG later this year.

John

I've never seen a Yeti in Ibiza, perhaps I'll be the first :sun:
