Lights cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Having a very strange issue with my 56 plate Octavia mk2 and wondering if anyone can help??

Had a bulb warning light apper on my dash last week and a message saying my front nearside sidelight wasn't working. Brought a new bulb as seemed nice and straight forward but before I could fit it the sidelight started working on it's own and the warning light disappeared.

All was ok for a few days but on the way home from work tonight I got another warning light. This time saying my rear offside brake light wasn't working. I've had the flap open in the boot and taken a look at the bulb/played with the wiring etc but nothing seems to have worked. Have a feeling it's likely to start working again in a few days but would obviously like to know what's causing this issue. Anyone else out there had a similar problem?? Would rather find out what it is and get it sorted rather than having to drive round with lights failing randomly.

Got the car booked in to be looked at next week but would be handy to know if it's something simple as saves on the pennies if I can avoid taking it in.

Thanks in advance.

It might just be coincidence. The front side light might just be a faulty bulb or a loose connection, this is a fairly common complaint on here.

The rear bulb may have simply blown and is in need of replacement.

I've had it before when the filament breaks and the bulb goes out but the vibrations from driving allow the filament 'to reconnect'...

Thanks mate.

Did wonder if it could just be a coincidence. Going to pop to get a new bulb tomorrow to see if it fixes it. Brother works for a motorpart supplier so only a few pence at most.

My dad has a caddy for work and has had a similar problem with his lights so was wondering if it was a common VAG issue. Seem to cut out randomly and then mysterously start working again.
