Auto lighting package

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm very pleased with my new Octy. Its an SE+ estate :hi:

Only thing is I had the auto-lighting package added as an option (can never get enough toys). Left in the AUTO position the lights come on too early - when its almost broad daylight in fact. Is there a way to reduce the ambient-light threshold at which the lights decide to come on?

Can a dealer do it by reprogramming?

Hello there, as far as i know you can't adjust or reprogramme the light sensor, it could be that there is dirt/oil/grease on the sensor making it think its in darkness. Worth a try mate.

Regards.

It's not just the level of light that denotes when the lights come on.

They also come on in low sun (as this can adversely affect your visibility), when the wipers are on for a prolonged period of time or if you exceed a certain speed.

Mine do this on the Superb - come on at strange times. Last few days it's been very sunny in the mornings but the lights have come on. Leaving work at night with less light, they don't.

Also at times the lights don't come on when I unlock but do when I start the car?

Okay thanks. I noticed they come on at 140kp/h but then stay on even when you are back doing in-town speeds. Can always turn them off using the switch I suppose

There appears to be an option within VCDS software that allows you to adjust to light sensitivity, eg in instances where the sensor is positioned behind green glass

Agreed, they seem to be more reluctant to turn off than they do on.

When they come on at high speed, they will normally stay on for a set amount of time even if you drop below the activation speed.

There was a problem with my rear view mirror coming detached from the screen, this has been fixed under warranty. The auto-lights seem to work better now.

They wont switch off until you go below a pre set speed...Extract from manual:

Motorway lights

If the automatic light control has been switched on and the vehicle speed is over 140 km/h for at least 10 seconds, the side lights and low beam are switched on auto- matically.

If the vehicle speed is below 65 km/h for at least 2 minutes, the lights are switched off.

There is, a couple of members on here have adjusted them and the seem to be less senstive and work better for them, can't seem to find the post though!

Update: After some time with the car, I am quite happy with the auto lights package. I just leave the switch in that position all the time. Its a little bit over-zealous but I don't really mind.

I like the auto-lights. Put this way, they have never "NOT" come on when required, however once or twice they have come on when maybe I wouldn't have manually switched them.

However I can think of absolutely no situation where you can have too many lights switch on.

Only time they don't come on is in daylight fog....

Otherwise mine are in auto all the time!

Escaping the police? Stalking someone? Special ops surveillance mission?

Have to say mine have never not come on when I've felt they should have, apart from as above in fog, but you'd need to switch to use fog lights
