  • No, I found a very cheap 1.2 petrol with high milage at an independant dealer. Doesn't even have electric windows. Perfect! When I mentioned the car's future it was suggested by the dealer that a

Thanks for the input Sy.

12 to 12.2 would be seriously impressive.

The GT-R is 11.7 to 12 standard. :D Not far off!

thinking about it i dont think you need anywhere near 400hp to reach your targets.

Stage 2+ K04 TFSI ed30/cupra manuals running R888s manage around 4.8-4.9 seconds and they way 1400kg and get around 12.8-13seconds@ around 116mph 1/4 mile time.

stage 2+ K04 TFSI ed30s with DSG & stripped interior running R888s and LSD manage around 4.4-4.5seconds and 12.7-12.8seconds 1/4 miles @ around 116mph.

but a stage 2+ manual S3s with normal high performance tyres (not semi slicks) will do a sub 4 second 0-60 and a 12.7 @ 1/4 mile@110mph

APRs stage 2+ DSG Golf R does a 3.8 second 0-60 with normal road tyres, full interior and a 12.2 1/4 mile @ 110mph.

What im trying to say is the cars above are substantially heavier than what your car will be. They are around 340-360hp depending on what dyno they have used. The only mods they have will be the intercooler, uprated HPFP, TBE, and intake. Everything else is stock. In fact APRs golf did it with the std intercooler. The ed30s will be around 240-250hp/ton. The S3/R's will be about 230-240Hp/ton.

Basicaly i dont think you need to be looking at big turbos or even hybrids as the K04 TFSI is so strong wih just basic ad ons that in a lighter car it would be insane. I guess your looking at about 1200-1300kg for you Fabia when finished so a stage 2+ TFSI K04 with 340Hp would be circa 260-280hp/ton.

http://www.torquesta...ubmit=Calculate

That would save you a hell of lot of money by not having to go down the big turbo route which will cost a good £3000 on top of the normal engine price

It actually under estimates the APR Golf R that made the 12.2second 1/4 mile and 3.5 second 0-60. That link reckons it should 12.6 1/4 time and 4.7 0-60. That said it doenst take into account the DSG.

Seems pretty bang on if you put in an Ed30 stage 2+ details as it gives the exact times they make for both the 0-60 and 1/4 time

Will this just be a road car, or are you thinking about rally/hillclimbing/etc ?

Occasional road fun, Santa Pod and track days currently...

Its not the first calculator of its type; letstorquebhp.com attempted the same (now defuncted) - had wondered if there might be some connection.

It does brush over the effects gearing, ratios, etc by using 'average' values.

oh yeah its a full on guess but its in the correct region so no a bad estimate.

I've just seen this... Have you had any quotes from companies regarding this or is it just a pipe dream at the moment?

Between the two. Final details not set in stone for engine/bodykit, but I have the Rallycross 4x4 Fabia, an 07 plate UK Fabia and a pair of 3kg Carbon Fibre front seats on order.

So it's already started, but no cutting up of cars has started yet. I'm trying not to rush it.

I have not yet looked for quotes to do the welding or engine work.

Let me know when you want it wrapping matt black ;)

What an amazing project by the sounds of it Richard. I can't wait to see its progress eventually; I'm incredibly jealous!

Well all I was thinking is it seems a shame to cut up two decent cars to make one good one.. If it were me I'd either pump money into making the auto grass 4x4 car right hand drive then make it road legal again after all this has had all the specialist fabrication done already so that hard bit is already done for you, or I'd have bought an octavia 4x4 1.8t as a donor car for it's engine and running gear and shove that into the 07 car.

don't worry yourself over the body kit, that's just superficial stick on tat that goes on after the 'engineered' part of the project is done, if it were me I'd make these flared arch panels myself from steel. It's simple enough to do, on the front wings you obtain another pair of front wings, chop off the part that you want flared out, weld it onto the existing wing, then cut a fillet piece from steel plate to fill in the gap, then do the same on the rear end, or even simpler just slice a line down the arch and pull it out, then insert a fillet piece.. But tbh it's best to do all this after the 4x4 gear is fitted so you can make the arches up to match the track width.

Something like this?

That's NOT an Audi TT-RS engine. That is a non-FSI, non turbo 5 cyl motor that is used in the VW Rabbit...

And despite what they claim it's not the same according to the tech info. Cheap though. :)

Although the TT-RS lump was based on it.

Yes, I agree with you.

This is pretty much the lines I've been heading down since discussing the idea.

The only bits I really need from the Rallycross car is the rear drive section. I can see myself looking at it, getting ideas and then selling it on.

Having had a look around, an accident damaged Audi TT or similar 4x4 VW group product will come in much cheaper and give me all the bits I need. It'll also give me a rear floor to chop out and move over if I want to keep it simple. Crashed mkI TT Quattros are going for around £1500. Not bad at all!

Plus, if I do decide on the WRC bodykit the track is pretty much sport on from the mkI TT. So I'm sure it can be done using existing parts like the Millotek Dragon.

It might just get a little complicated if I want to retain the original Fabia width, which will need shorter suspension components and rear driveshafts. But nothing that can't be made up quite easily if I really wanted that, as the rest of the set up will effectively be VAG stock.

I just need something that'll keep up with yours! ;)

Recon the seller bought it from the states with the idea of a turbo conversion, then realised just how much $ it'd cost to turbo it, or ran out of money (or both !)

I can see myself looking at it, getting ideas and then selling it on.

Keep me posted on that - got a spare 20v engine, gearbox, front drivetrain, all waiting for a purpose in life - and hankering to get into amatuer rallying/hillclimbing ;)

Make me a sensible offer. :D

It's around 1260kg with a 1.8T engine making 250bhp.

Fair amount of spare driveshafts, few spare panels, two spare sets of tyres (possibly for different surfaces) and other bits and bobs...

FIA approved log book. (but it's in Czech)

I said sensible, and I'd expect more from a property tycoon. :p

Erm...GTR? It also happens to be my 'lottery-win car'. Your SE fabia won't be far off tbh mate.

there will be something that will fit suspension wise, possibly even the mk4 golf stuff could be made to fit.. It will cost you roughly £250 each to get driveshafts shortened properly by a process called friction welding, I only know this because I just had one done a few days ago.

I know this is going to sound crazy but you might be better off just buying a 4x4 car like a scooby or an evo and get busy with the plasma torch and chop the body shell off the floorpan and graft a fabia body shell on instead, after all those evo cars have been tuned to death by folks and everything is already engineered for you... There's some lads round the corner from me that do this with minis, they got an mgf floorpan and shortened it and then grafted a mini clubman van body on top, I though I was a clever bugger but these guys are totally bonkers.

  • Author

I want to keep it VAG and am not so sure a Fabia shell on a Scooby still counts as a Skoda. :D

So it's looking like chopping up a lightly damaged VAG product is going to be the way to go.

If you can get the driveshafts shortened then it's all looking OK.
