ACCIDENT

Featured Replies

Driving down the road this afternoon, van parked on opposite side of road half on the pavement, car coming towards me decided to keep coming between me and the parked van.Wing mirrors touch with the result of mine being smashed. She carried on so I turned round and followed her until she eventualy pulled into Asda. When challenged she refused to give insurance details and walked off.I took her reg and went to police station to report it and was told to go through insurance.

Hopefully I win but it has been known that insurers sometimes go knock for knock and I end up losing £150 excess, but surely she has failed to stop after an accident and refused to give details which the police don't seem to be bothered about.

  • Why bother claiming for a wing mirror, it will put your premium up next time and you'll have to declare it as an accident for the next 5 years even as a non fault. All for around £100'ish or less to f

  • I find a chalk pen, on the windows cause enough problem. Nothing permanent, I don't think it's criminal damage, but enough to annoy the cr*p out of them.

No one was hurt = police don't give a fudge

Too right, and they wonder why people take the law into their own hands.

Had a bus at work get fully mullered down the side after a **** in a van overtook it on a blind bend then side swiped it when a lorry come the other way. He just drove off, after CCTV and a bit of detective work of my own the bloke was found and because he had lost his job over it the police said they didnt bother doing him for the various laws he had broken.

Thats what I can't understand. They didn't even take any details just told me to inform my insurance. :wall:

Is it a case of there being no witnesses, so therefore 1 word against the other. I had a similar case a few months ago after a farmer got nasty with me after I got out of my car to check his cow hadn't damaged my car after nudging it. After I said it was him responsible for his cattle causing any damage to other property/vehicles, he replied with 'why don't you f*** off before I smash your head in'.

Reported him to police only for the to ask if any witnesses, harm or damage occurred. A none had they did nothing.

swmbo in car with me and van driver was next to van,he didn't see it happen but heard it and knew that the other car must have been on my side of the road to get passed his van.

Sad really that the police aren't interested in taking any action then.

I had CCTV! Still not interested

Sounds familiar.....had exactly the same happen to me with a bint in a 306. Said it was her right of way then flatly denied it after her mother turned up (I followed her to her house round the corner after she failed to stop) and as such there was zero damage to her shed.

I drove away, suffice to say that revenge was paid a couple of months later ;) Knock for knock you say?!

Also done the same as you once JRW.

Felt better after lol.

I agree they should have stopped, but if you claim it will most likely go 50/50 anyway as is typical in this scenario.

Did think this my self but I was so wound up I thought I would take the chance to win this and hope she gets done for failure to stop.Worst case I lose my excess but my no claims is protected.

its simply not worth claiming old squire... find a second hand mirror unit and chuck it on there, i'll even help you fit it if you like.

Thanks but it might be too late for that.Car booked in for this afternoon by insurance co.

I had a similar issue, someone hit me and drove off. got the details reported it to the police. They didn’t care, insurance company chased him and he said he wasn’t there. I also had no witnesses so it was my word against his and guess what happened. Nothing naddda he got off scott free

You could just cancel the claim stating police aren't interested and you don't wish to pursue through insurance.

Unfortunately Police only get involved if somebody has been injured or died.

Should have kicked her wing mirror off while she was in Asda. Eye for an eye

Once you've told them it's too late. It'll be on MID, and you'll be expected to declare it each renewal/quote

A mirror for a mirror......and a few other things :p

Once police force tried to tell a lawyer I knew that hitting a car then driving off wasn't criminal and they wouldn't give them a crime number.

If you push the point, then it's amazing how quickly they change their story when they realise you will take matters further if they don't do their job.

I get the impression that most car crimes are unlikely to get a result of solved and closed so they don't want them as they look bad on their stats.

A very sad state of affairs.

First thing ! Get industrial expanding foam and insert into tailpipe, then accidentally fall onto both mirrors, then get 2 system apoxy resin and pour into key hole, job done
