Rear alloys stuck on?

Featured Replies

your rear alloys are stuck on? and you want to take the wheels off and they are stuck solid......gently pour hot water over the centre of the wheel ....after a couple of minutes give the tyre on each side a kick and the wheel will come off ........promise :)

When I was taking my steel off, that was near solid. Thought I was being blonde and hadn't got all the bolts out for a short while.

I've had this problem too... I found that a f**king great hammer does the trick too!! But I do like your gently gently approach, I'll definately try that first if I have the same problem again!!!!:thumbup:

Or " 'it it with a bloody big lump hammer! "

Or do what I do and swap wheels so often they never get the chance to stick. :o

Best tip I got was to slacken bolts off sightly and rock car before jacking works a treat.

Prevention is better than cure. When you refit the wheels a smear of copper brake grease on the hub faces will ensure no probs. in future. This is one of the first things I do after getting a car.

Definitely copper brake-grease them when you take them off - I may get the dealer to do that as part of it's first service :)

Gents - may I add to the suggestions - had exactly same problem with Furby - http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/rear-alloys/159932/

Same great suggestions .And would suggest a read of the recommended torque settings as some tyre places don't have a clue - and I found days later that my "TIGHT" setting on an old torque wrench (which had lost it's scale ) ,wasn't good enough -the nuts were not as tight as I'd left them . So perhaps a torque wrench might be a useful bit of kit to carry .

I usually hit the tire with a wrench pretty hard - usually does the trick as I don't carry a hammer in my tool kit!

yeah it can be infuriating getting the rear wheels off, i had a puncture once when i was driving home from work late at night and i couldn't get the wheel off, and yes it was ****ing it down with rain too

This is probably the thread to rant about mechanics that don't remove the wheels to check the brakes during a service, and those mechanics that when the wheels are removed use an air gun to tighten the bolts! It pees me right off!

I just give em a bash or two from the inside with my heal.

All the people kicking the wheels... what it drops straight off onto the ground marking the face of your alloys?

Just leave 2 bolts on a few threads.

also, kicking the car off the jack isn't much fun.

I put a whacking great hole in the floor pan of a Volvo doing this:O

Gents - may I add to the suggestions

You may - pity your 4 1/2 years too late though

And yes copper slip on the spigot is the cure.

:rofl:LMAO, I didn't notice the original post date till I read your post!:D

I opt for loosening them before jacking, putting all my weight on to loosen off those stiff stiff bolts.

If you get a puncture and your on the hard shoulder of the M6 would the AA man have a kettle of hot water or would he just bash them with a large hammer........Just Curious. :)

( )

loosen the bolts before jacking so they can still hold the wheel on well but are not tight, then push the car forward enough to turn the wheel a half turn. That is usually enough to break the corrosion.

Actually -neither did I -and a search didn't bring this one up -first carI've had with alloys ,and first time in what must be a few million miles ,Ive had problems getting a wheel off .
