Maxidot and sat nav help pls

Featured Replies

Hi, I've just bought a 2008 L&K Octavia II Estate. I love it but its taking some getting used to it as its got such a lot of kit!!

The maxidot however seems to be quite minimal in terms of options when looking at some other posts on here, does it need the dealer or a software equipped garage to activate more of the options, or is it a firmware?? upgrade I need to get some of the extra features I have seen?

I'm also wondering if I need to update the columbus sat nav firmware as nothing happens apart from the sound muting when I select the phone option.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks

Adam

Can't help with the Maxidot question - sorry.

However, the Columbus does not have bluetooth or phone connectivity as standard. That is a separate £250 gadget. Pressing the phone button will mute the volume as though you were going to make a phone call, but as their is no phone, it should revert back to playing the stereo shortly.

Oh right, shame but cheers for that.

It sounds like your Columbus has been retrofitted as my VRs has the same issue. It originally had an MFD2 sat nav but I swapped it out for a Columbus. Since then, the Maxidot has had only very basic menus (Setup, MFD and one other from memory) and I believe it needs to be programmed to the car by someone who has a hex-can cable. If you are lucky enough to live close to a member who has one, they may well do the job for you out of the goodness of their heart! I guess a dealer might do it for you but they'd charge you for the privilege. If you bought your car from a Skoda dealership, I'd get it back to them and ask them to code it in properly.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for this, but I checked my options list in the service book (see below) and I have both 9W5 and 7Q2 which suggests to me that

a ) the phone gismo should be there; and

b ) it wasn't a retrofit satnav.

Or am I missing something else?

Thanks

Adam
