WIPERS! Interior Auto/Rain Sensor,Fault codes....

Recommended Posts

This is driving me nuts now, I drove back from london to manchester on thursday and when i joined the M6 from the M1, for the whole 98 miles on the M6, my wipers did not switch off! they went from hurricane mode to slow mode and not a cloud in the sky!!! And yes the wiper stalk was on off, the thing is,the only thing that works on the stalk when this happens is the washer jets

Wardy kindly ran VCDS and it came up with these errors, now am i right in thinking i need to replace the interior rear view mirror sensor, the wiper motor and my door lock microswitch? Ive spent a fair while on the forum to see if i could figure something out but im just getting confused lol, Oh and the trailor thingy is still connected, i will eventually get that completely removed,im not too worried about that

How do i remove the interior mirror and is the dealers the only place i can get this sensor from? i have read about changing the wiper relay from relay 192 to 377 to stop the auto sensing function but thats not fixing the issue for the auto sensing and also,is the wiper motor showing as faulty due to this interior sensor or is it just that the motor itself is actually faulty too?

The errors :

Where is in the interior sensor? i thought it was built into the mirror next to the led?

Anyone got a How to for removal of the rear view anti dimming mirror?

Well, the reason i cant find the same relay everyone else has in their cars is because, on a VRS or specifically, mine, the relay is built inside the wiper motor

Hence the fault showing as faulty wiper motor which is whats triggering the rain sensor to go all funny

£146 for the part and £81 to fit from dealers!!!

Any idea where else i can get a wiper motor other than the scrappys? and how do you remove the motor? is it quite hard?

I know the rear wiper motor is a dealer only part so I would imagine the front wiper motor is the same. You might find one on eBay though.

i was on the motorway yesterday and at 70mph in 2nd lane,my wipers just stopped working, and im pretty sure disabling the rain sensors isnt going to fix this problem

Sorry mate did not realise.

You may many faults due to only one afair. And because of this others "related" may show up.

then you have this

01517 - Control Module for Trailer/Towing Sensor (J345)

004 - No Signal/Communication

Something must have happened for you to have 9.55 V.

Raining?? water may have entered somewhere!!!

Check for the rear washer pipe having leaked all over the towbar controller - it is mounted on the N/S/R wheelarch behind all the boot trim. A short here can cause all sorts of issues - I recently lost my front washers, rear wiper and rear washer because of a very slight leak here shorting something out and taking out the relay on the CEM - the bottom right hand relay is for the rear wipers, washers (front and rear) BTW.

sorry im confused? the towbar is causing my wipers to go loopy?

And how do i check the wire from the motor? is it easy to get to? Any pics please :)

andyvee, the washers work when the wipers are going crazy but the rest of the functionality on the wiper stalk completely stops working

Its getting worse and worse now, and this might sound weird but it happens more often when i turn right? turning left seems to calm them down, if not, completely stop them?

im going to check the rear washer pipe but how do i access the lan communication wire from wiper motor back to onboard supply unit?

I read that before, turning the wheel caused a short in the stalk and the wipers went all bonkers.

Don't remember where I read it, or a fix...sorry...but it's worth looking at the stalk!
