GTI world

Featured Replies

Ok so cars approacinhg first service in a couple of k. Now where to take it. VW gti world (Edinburgh Kinnaird Park) is very close to me and easy to get to. Has anyone used these or consider it or as its a new car should i go skoda. I know its same group so parts and warranty should not be an issue. Just looking for a little advice. Also thinking of changing to fixed servicing as 13k from new to first service seems fixed is a better option.

I didn't use a Skoda dealer for my first service. Took mine to Awesome GTi in Manchester.

VW GTI world (Edinburgh Kinnaird Park) look like they're basically a brand name for Western VW [a franchised VW dealer]. Your warranty should be valid provided the car is serviced by any VAT registered garage using the correct Skoda OEM parts, but you'll probably find that VW dealers can only do certain things on VW cars, Skoda dealers can only do certain things on Skoda cars - as an example, my Skoda dealer could not adjust the aim of the xenon headlights on my Audi as they could not access the correct mode. You'll also find that each individual marque within the VW empire operate pretty much as a seperate entity, so if you go looking to Skoda for any kind of goodwill in the future and do not have a full Skoda service history you may struggle even if you have used a VW, Audi or SEAT dealer for your servicing. Depending on where you are you should be able to get to a franchised Skoda dealer - there's Arnold Clark on Seafield Road, Chathams at Sighthill and West End Garage in Broxburn. Personally I'd be going to the supplying dealer unless there was a very good reason not to.

Cost was my primary reason, plus I wanted Awesome to do a few other things whilst it was in.

I'll be doing the same. I've known Jim for years (since my golf g60 days) - main dealer = prime spanner monkey from experience I'm afraid...

I've only met Jim the once and that was when I took mine in to get the remap and suspension done the day after I got it. It was quite funny actually, my brother knows Jim from the early GTI international years so I knew the name and that he had started up Awesome. Anyway, I was just hanging around waiting whilst they worked on my car and I got talking to this guy who was jet washing cars outside thinking he worked there and that cleaning cars was his job but it quickly materialised that that was Jim Cotton.
