Beetle Rsi Mega Thread

Featured Replies

I posted a teaser of this last week and the car is now complete so here is the full write up.

As far as we can think this must be the rarest production car in the UK unless anyone else can think of a car with only 1 currently in the UK? :thumb:

Link to how many left http://howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/volkswagen_beetle_v6_rsi

Only 250 were made all left hand drive and only available in Germany so it was up to UK dealers to import them to sell and put on a forecourt for £50,000 :doublesho:

I am fully aware that there are many haters of the Beetle so please keep your comments to yourself. I myself am not a fan of the generic beetle shape however this car is not a normal beetle by any means. Honestly if you ever get the chance to look around one take it as you soon see why they were £50k. The attention to detail and amount of REAL carbon fibre around the car is untrue.

I unfortunately didn't get any 'real' interior shots of the full alcantara headlining and repositioned stereo due to the dials where it normally would be. This was down to the fact the owner wanted this back the same day so attention was spent on the outside mainly.

So here goes there's lots of pics but i think this car deserves them :thumb:

On arrival the car was very very clean already a credit to the owner and the fact it lives inside so a quick walk round inspection to see what lay ahead

A quick showing of the amount and quality of carbon on this car.

Full door card (notice windy windows to save weight) Also believe all the metal interior parts are titanium to save weight :doublesho:

The car had recently a a little break upgrade. The car belongs to my boss and when he heard i was stripping my Skoda Octavia VRS he snapped my hand off to get these Porsche Cayenne 6 Pot brembos for his Rsi

DSC_6016.jpg

Light brake dusting

Dirty Arches

DSC_6019.jpg

The Beetle has a much smaller front end than the MK4 Golf this engine is from so its shoe horned in slightly

And so the cleaning can commence

First a treatment of Autobrite Magifoam the best on the market for cling and cleaning

P1230380.jpg

P1230381.jpg

P1230382.jpg

Which was left to do its thing for about 10 mins as the sun was out (kind of)

Whilst the foam was dwelling i cleaned the wheels with Autosmart Smart Wheels through a foaming head and using Ez large and small brushes and envy brushes to agitate

P1230385.jpg

The tyres and arches were sprayed with diluted Autosmart G101 and agitated

P1230386.jpg

Love it!

The foam was then rinsed off to reveal a super clean looking car

Upon closer inspection it was evident of a high level of fall out contamination on the roof but only on the roof which i thought strange, but the bonnet and boot had received a respray in the last 12 months when my boss bought the car so it must have been sat in the paint for a while.

P1230391.jpg

The roof was treated to Purple Rain and after 10-15 minutes it was removing what what on there.

P1230397.jpg

I went round the rest of the car with the Purple Rain as a precaution but nothing was removed.

P1230392.jpg

The roof still had signs of fallout there but very few spots and hardly noticeable. I would of hit it again with Purple Rain but had ran out :wall: so clayed the roof which removed more particles, some remained and have said i will re do the roof in the near future.

The car was washed with Auto Finesse Lather my current favourite shampoo

P1230390.jpg

The whole car was clayed with Auto Finesse grey clay and Last touch diluted as a lube

P1230393.jpg

P1230394.jpg

Clay after roof still picking up particles

P1230395.jpg

No tar at all on this car maybe due to the Huge arches catching it all so they were soaked in Tardis

The car was then re-foamed and washed to remove all cleaning agents

The car was then pulled inside which although being very awkward being left hand drive and basically bucket seats was a pleasure as the noise these make is epic.

Once dry i inspected the car for any marks or defects only really finding a couple of scratches/marks on the bonnet and one on the rear bumper

Car already has nice reflection and gloss to it

DSC_6056.jpg

Scratch on bonnet seen here in reflection of roof light

DSC_6087.jpg

And here to right of halogen

DSC_6089.jpg

Swirls on bonnet to be removed

DSC_6063.jpg

The plan on this car was to carry out correction polishing to the bonnet and front wings due to recent respray and then to machine glaze the rest of the car to add some gloss.

So car was taped up ready for machine work

DSC_6074.jpg

DSC_6075.jpg

Time to open my box of tricks

DSC_6077.jpg

DSC_6079.jpg

Bonnet after using Yellow top 3M followed by Blue top 3M and scratch removed and swirls now gone

DSC_6088.jpg

Here the bonnet has been machined and the wings also tickled with Blue top 3M and a Blue pad. The front bumper was done by hand using Auto Finesse Rejuvenate

DSC_6092.jpg

The rest of the car i found a great combination with a Blue 3M pad and Britemax Black Max, This was creating a lovely gloss on the paintwork especially the plastic arches

DSC_6099.jpg

DSC_6103.jpg

DSC_6104.jpg

Scratch/mark on rear bumper removed with Dodo Juice Lime Prime

DSC_6106.jpg

DSC_6107.jpg

The B pillars were highly swirled and scratched so these were treated to a whiz over with Blue 3M on Blue pad. Not full correction as deep scratches were left as didn't want to remove too much in case they became damaged

After

Once the machine work was finished the car was then treated to 2 coats of Zaino Z2 applied by hand as the car being silver i think react better to sealants rather than waxes and being a proper weekend toy kept in the garage a sealant should give the owner a better 'quick wash down' experience.

All trim was treated to Auto Finesse Revive

Tyres and arches treated to Autosmart Highstyle

Glass Polished with Dodo glass polish and then wiped down with Glass cleaner

Interior was wiped over with Iz Cockpit shine

Leather cleaned up with Auto Finesse Hide Cleaner

No pics of above as time was pressing on sorry. Will get some in the near future as i think i will be seeing this car again during summer :thumb:

So now the final pictures of the car, the sun had decided to not play ball today so some inside under the lights and a few outside as the owner returned to collect the car

DSC_6127.jpg

DSC_6128.jpg

Car was then covered up to protect from any dust that may settle on teh paint wainting for the customer (my boss ) to turn up

DSC_6130.jpg

When he arrived i pulled the car back outside and snapped a few in the dull outside light before it was taken back home

Ok post away lol

Over recent time I have found myself drawn into the detailing world, threads like this really don't help. Ive never had the patience to do it before but have found when you get really good results it's quite addictive.

Beetle lover or not you can't deny that the RSi was a bonkers concept and thank god VW had the balls to do something a little different from the boring hum drum. I have worked on a few of them (which can be challenging) and they sound awesome.

Great work on the detail, nice to pick up a few process tips, I have never used clay but I think it might be the next stage I include in my next detail/valet (still not sure if what I do is detailing, feel a bit of a fraud calling it that though for some reason). Also need to order some Tardis, it's a shame we don't have an Autosmart rep at work. The Beetle looks great, I assume your boss was happy? Good thing is now that's been done keeping that way should be so much easier.

Fair play! That looks brilliant, the beetle looks very sporty in deed!

What sort of price would this detail cost, I see your in Cannock as well, feel free to pm me if you want some extra work!

Looking good. When it comes to the detailing thing I do find myself wondering why so much prep is required, but usually it is worth it. I did the mongrel on Friday and with my own car I don't bother taping off and using ilghts etc. I had the sun to guide me, and I just machined away until I felt it looked fine. :D

PS: What performance stats for those bugs. Are they basically an R32 in a bug shell?

Yes it's mk4 Golf R32, seen a turbo one and that's even tighter in the engine bay..lol

Nice detail. B) Shame about the car. :giggle:

Looks like its been pumped by a 17 year old.

Not for me. Who ever paid £50k for them must of been stupid.

Good effort on the detailing though

really think I should get the Polo detailed after looking at this but I think it would reveal too many dents, rust spots and scratches!

Didnt realise it was so tight in the Beetle's bay though, looks like they have an even smaller bay that a Polo like mine!

Looks great and I think you should post it on that other site too....

Decent detailing bay - or should that be barn !

53 is missing from the doors . :giggle:

Nice detailing work

Nice one mate. I know it's a pain to get the results to show up on the camera when working with silver! Looks class though buddy. Totally agree with your sealant comment. Waxes don't seem to do much with silver, better to go for the crisp finish of the sealant. Thanks for sharing that on such a rare and special car.

If your ony in Worcester feel free to come up one weekend and use all my stuff. I'll guide you through it all. Save you buying a block of clay to use once. I've got plenty.

Full machine correction would cost about £300 plus

I don't do this for money just a hobby really. I can put you in contact with local detailers of you wanted a full on pro type job. As above though feel free to join me one weekend at my barn and use whatever you wan on your car

Briskoda detail meet anyone?

Basically yes. Although some components are taken from the v5 golf/beetle car rather than the r32

This ones got a remap on too

You say you've worked one few? Were they on the road or what?

The site above says only 2 in the uk?

It was on DW but I got banned from posting in showroom as someone claimed I was running a business which im not!

Long story but their loss for not having the thread lol

Wow - I'm undercharging :D

Beautiful car, always wanted one!

Very nice work, & a very nice car.

I would be interested in a Briskoda detail meet, if anything was planned. It's nice looking at the photos, but to watch seeing someone doing it in front of you , could learn/show you much more.

Once again good work.

Love it!
