Auto-Dimming Mirror

Featured Replies

The fact that it remains an option even on the Elegance makes me wonder if perhaps there is a "double edged sword" aspect to this option.

Either ,

- The Auto-dimming mirror is great when there's bright sunshine or glaring headlights shining in it but reduces clarity in normal conditions.

0r ( as I'm hoping ),

- The Auto-dimming mirror both does it's job when it needs to dim but also allows full clarity in all other circumstances i.e. a win-win situation.

I'll be driving at night a lot too so I really need to get this right. The fact as I say that it remains an option even on Elegance makes be wonder about it's properties.

It's an option purely to get more money out of you.

Left in auto (on) it dims only when needed - there is a sensor on the bottom of the mirror. It can however also be manually turned off as there is an on/off button by the sensor.

Can't recall the last time that I actually dipped the rear view mirror manually - suspect that it is just to get cash out of you.

However do appreciate that drivers are different and someone may find it useful.

It works very well, as in your "Or" option, but it really should come as standard in the Elegance spec.

I really missed it on a previous Superb, and am still surprised it's an option even on Elegance. I have heard some people say they don't like it, but with the on off switch, what's the problem? Having cars with and without, it was the first option on my list!

Thanks, this is what I wanted to hear.

- Positive comments about it and the fact ( new to me ) that it is manually switchable.

Buy it. Its £80 less the VAT

I agree, I have it and it works well. I also think it should be standard on the Elegance. It is standard on many Seat models so why not standard on the top Superb???

I had this on my old Rover 75 and now on my Superb, it's worth the £80.

I know it has probably been mentioned already, but this feature comes as standard on elegance models in rep. of Ireland, and really should be included on UK spec cars as well.

It's one of the popular retrofits on Rover 75s as it was an option on those. Both mine have it, so I couldn't order a Superb without it!

Had auto dImming mirror on my last car (Avensis). IMHO it was not worth paying extra for as it seemed not to be as effective as hand dipped version

£80 would buy a quite a few pints of real ale and would result in more pleasure

I bought the Gentex one and fitted it to the car from new. I wouldn't be without it and as with cruise control, it's definitely on an option list for me.

It came as standard on my Yeti elegance, never had one before but would not be without it now it is very good indeed. The clarity is good the image just takes on a green tinge when it activates

I had it on my VRS and Focus ST before that. I really miss it on the Superb and am thinking of trying to get it retrofitted

The system on the ST was on or off while I found the Skoda one graduated its dimming depending on the light intensity behind you

I always had it switched on

Can not understand why the auto lights and wipers are standard on the Elegance but not the autodim mirror

I have Auto-Dimming on my estate, it was on the Audi and Merc I had before and thought for £80 why not. To be honest never really noticed it on my estate.

However, I drove a twin door for about a week which had not got Auto-Dimming and it was a right pain at night in traffic, here in London every other car appears to have badly adjusted lights.

Whether this was down to the shape of the rear window compared to the estate, I dont know but I know I would not buy a Superb without ticking the Auto-dimming box.

Have it on my Octavia which I bought used. Never had it before and never seen the point as I can't remember the last time I dipped a manual mirror. But now I've had one I wouldn't be without it, it works brilliantly!

It's a Good Thing. As are auto lights and wipers. And seats that adjust when the car's unlocked by the key of the appropriate driver. And auto locking. And the audio gets louder as the speed goes up. Etc etc.

Another thumb up for them.

Fitted one to mine and it really is good.

With the normal/manual one I found I never dipped it down as it was very poor when dipped whereas the auto dimming varies the ammount it is dipped and so is much better than either dipped or not where it might just be a little glare etc.
