Yeti Questions: probably dumb, but asking anyway!

Featured Replies

Had a browse through FAQs/search but again came up a little short. Random questions for you (not as many as I had since Rob Fisk is a friend of mine and has been patiently answering all my ignorance so far!)

1. Extended Warranty. Looking to keep the car 4 years and it'll be doing 20k a year. £299 I think for extending warranty to end of year 4, seems a no brainer? Mine is a 2WD if that makes a difference. Need to decide before picking up Friday.

2. Amundsen system: Can I still use SD for music as per the non Sat Nav version. This will save me from fretting about how to connect iPhone properly so steering wheel controls work.

3. Bumper protector (for 34 kilo BIG lab) - what's best to use to protect it from dog paw? Rob did suggest something but don't have his email here.

4. Initial Wax? On other new cars I've had, I always have put a layer of decent hard wax on as soon as I get it. Still worthwhile or detrimental to paint finish? Mine is Candy non Metallic if that matters.

I'm sure there's more. But this is my starter for 4 :)

Thanks

Alex

1. Yes, if you are keeping the car that long it's a no brainer to me too. It's a Skoda backed warranty rather the "wriggle out of every claim if possible" aftermarket ones.

2. I don't have Amundsen Sat Nav.

3. The bumper protectors do not cover the top face of the bumper, they are too small. The only Skoda accessory that does is the fold out bumper foil with a warning triangle on it. But this might be slippery for dogs.

4. Modern paint finishes are soft, so waxing it ASAP it a good idea.

Beat me to it Johann

Thanks again. The DIY boot cover looked ace. Beyond my skills, I'll buy one :)

Well, some are soft and some are very hard. The hard ones are so hard that removing swirl marks (i.e making even a 1-micron impression on the clear coat) is almost impossible by hand-polishing and requires a machine polisher.

As for Skoda paint, it is between soft and hard. Here's a list: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/pdfs/painthardness.pdf

Well I've learned something :) Been a while since I waxed a car (TBH the x-trail got cleaned when it was rained on ;) ). Worth spending the extra on Auto-Glym and the like?

I have the Amundsen and have music and SatNav data on one 8GB SD Card. It's possible to use both at the same time : Sat Nav doing it's thing whilst listening tp MP3s. It works very well - I'm impressed with the ease of navigating MP3 folder structures etc. and the steering wheel playback controls also work well.

Does that mean you think it's not worth polishing ASAP?

Interesting chart.

Made me wonder why VW and Audi are listed as having harder paint when I thought they were using the same paint and colours as Seat and Skoda.

Alex, - on no account let the stealer soft soap you into the Autoglym treatment! Buy the products yourself elsewhere and let the girls apply them!

Rob - probably cost me more :) Actually even the nearly-13 year old said she's happy to help me wash the car. THis normally takes the form of some brief sponge action followed by a monster hosepipe fight! Ta for the info on the sat-nav, i'll see what's in there when I get it, but if maps are on SD, no reason I can't copy them off onto a bigger card and stick some music on that.

The Sat Nav data comes on a disc. There's an option in the menu to copy it to SD Card. The SD Card doesn't get cleared or formatted during this process - so any music is retained. The copy process does take quite a while though - up to 1 hour

Surprised they don't have a category for brittle paint; wife's Pacific Blue Fabia would be in that one for sure, as it chips and marks far to easily :S

Yeti has so far proved a little more resilient to all but the sharpest of FOD

Well we have it now :) Shall give it a clean and polish tomorrow. Night and Day driving my aged x-trail to the dealer and the Yeti back and that's not just new car blindness ;) Parked up in town to hunt down some tea and some oik was <-> close to reversing into me. I had to have a lie down after that! Paired phone, 2 seconds later had a phone call so that works :) Off to read the manual with a glass of Red.

They say "last updated 01/11/09". Like in 2009? Does it apply to our monsters than? My personal feeling is that Yeti's paint is rather on the softer side unfortunately ...

There was a lot of wax on it based on how the water beaded when I hosed it down (no hosepipe ban here, close to Wales, rains a lot ;) ) but I gave it the AutoGlym treatment all over. Shall see how the paint holds up on a 100 mile round trip to the clients for the next five months.
