Very near to changing cars. But what to change to?

Featured Replies

It is a hard choice and I do love my Mk2 Estate but there are other options. What is worth looking at is the new Suzuki Swift Sport which is in budget. My brother has the one before it and it's great fun. It does need a 6th gear but the new one has this and a bit more power

I agree, the Swift is a great little car and is getting rave reviews. Autocar magazine are running one as a long termed and love it. I'd love to get my son one in a few years time as it reminds me of my 205 GTI, not too much power but just great all round.

Note: The better half has said no to the above so he won't be getting one!!!!!

Audi TT quattro sport is looking like the favourite at the moment...

The 240bhp special edition with just 2 seats and black roof. B)

I'd probably go for a black one. The roof is pearl effect phantom black and the body

would be non pearl effect but same shade of black. Mainly to disguise the fact that it's

a "special" one. It's also available in blue, red, silver,

Other differences include 18" model specific alloys (15 spoke), battery moved to boot, no spare wheel,

no load cover, just a luggage net , huge brace bar across rear of car, front valance from the 3.2,

s-line suspension, Black twin exhaust.

It's the right combination of performance, looks and specialness.Only 800 registered in uk.

Standard on these is Bose, and xenons, esp,

Love the fixed recaro interior, just can't work out which colour to go for.

The rear of the recaros are matched to the body colour. Nice...

Can pick up a very low mileage example well inside my budget.

I'll have enough change to buy a newer van too.

Tell me why I shouldn't buy one of these??

My mate had a Quattro Sport 240 for about 2 years. I never really liked the mk1 TT, but the looks of that particular model changed my mind a bit.

I spent a reasonable amount of time in it, and he accompanied me on a trip to the Nurburgring and various trackdays with me in my Fabia. It got absolutely ragged and I think the only thing that went wrong with it was the boost pipe popping off whilst out on track, and the usual ignition coil issues. Oh and the sump got cracked after some air time, but that's not the cars fault haha.

Seats are nice, but very harsh for long distance - not an issue for you. It did about 20mpg around town, but on the motorway this would be up around 35-40mpg thanks to its slippery body.

It was damn quick in everyday situations, his had a remap to about 260bhp and it really did go well, if a bit bland and boring. It liked to understeer a bit, but nothing that an anti roll bar wouldn't sort out.

He sold his for £9k on a 55plate, watch out for the 06 registered ones as the tax takes a massive hike (not sure on the figure).

If you like it, I don't think you would be disappointed with it Garry, my mate said it was the longest he had owned a car and enjoyed the time he had it (now owns a Merc C55 AMG).

Here it was last time out with us at Combe

Thanks Simon, I'd heard about the understeer but I'm used to that. ;)

I do really fancy one of those but for similar money I could also go

for a MK2 petrol Octy vRS around 2009 ish with under 40k, more comfort,

more toys etc and ultimately better resale value and day to day drivability.

But I don't really need something as big as that. I have the old faithful

SDI for carting passengers and shopping about.

I am just a bit windy about splashing 10k ish on a 2005/6 car although

it's a nice car it is a bit overpriced for what it is. It seems to be the going rate

for one of those and the words future classic keep ringing in my ears.

Still not had a test drive of the MK2 vRS??

I think for the money, buying a one year old MK2 vRS or Polo GTI you can't go wrong, quick, fairly economical, fun to drive, nice engine noise :)

Still plenty of time to change my mind Adam. It won't be happening for a month or two,

I've got to get the Mazda sold and the vRS stripped a bit first and then sold.

There's no mad rush, lots to do over the next few weeks anyway with other developments

in my life.

I didn't even know the Quattro Sport TT even existed until a week or so ago.

I saw a lovely all black one on Autotrader for about 8k on a 55 plate (pre road tax hike)

That gives me a lot of bang for my buck and a lot of change from 13-14k to do other things with.

Still haven't had my honeymoon yet, and my van either needs expensive work doing on it or replacing pretty

soon. There's a few expensive tools I could do with having for work and I'll have the spare cash to do it all if

I get both cars sold for the right price. The MX is mint and with only 18k on the clock I should get a decent

price for it if I wait it out a bit. Summer is coming and they get the best money when the sun is shining ;)

I'm considering a Swift Sport - meant to be a blast to drive. My only concern would be dropping 40-odd horses - not that I use them that often, but nice to have in reserve.

Think I'd miss the DSG as well - was in my mate's Jag auto last night - forgot how 'clunky' normal autos seem in comparison.

Holy thread revival!

:)

I remembered the SSS being discussed on here before, so didn't want to start a new Fred.

I was just getting the quote in quick lol, the flame suits are normally required for such things

Cannae win - if you start a new Fred you get shot down for not using the search function :p .

Haha sometimes, yeah... I was expecting more of a flaming in here but it seems to have gone unnoticed :D here's to a future like this...

The new Swift Sport is on my radar again. Used examples are under 10k already with everything seemingly fine with them.

Stick a turbo-charger in an SSS and I'd definitely be interested. However, appreciate they've gone for driving fun, which doesn't always mean more oomph is best.

Well by now most of you know what I ended up buying...

All I want to know is... Who's Fred? :p
