INtakes

Featured Replies

Is there any benifit to fitting an aftermarket intake , mine is slightly falling to pieces lol and thought about changing it .

My questions are is there a benifit ?

Will my car still run fine even if its mapped or not ?

Which kind can see a few on awesome?

Standard airbox is about the best you'll get, these induction kits are useless!

Wot makes you say that? Just fitted a evoms Cai and it made the mid range a lot stronger.

i fitted the exact same intake to my stage 1 vrs and removed it after a few weeks. After changing back to standard i did feel a drop in performance and throttle response but the noise was to much for everyday driving. The intake does sound good when you are rearly pressing on and using the full rev range and if you are a fan of dump valve noise there is plenty of it

My mine is quiet and that is with a forge dv, but my mates is noisy.

You couldnt be any more wrong. The stock intake on the TFSI intake is very very restrictive and pretty much all the full induction kits give good gains. There are many many independant dyno graphs showing the before and after results of fitting an intake.

The best ones on the market for gains are probably the Evoms, ITG Maxogen/VWRacing intake and Forge Twintake. These all give around 8-10Hp gain on a stock car with standard software. If you add one of these intakes to a remapped car the gains get bigger and bigger as the stock intake really holds the remap back.

Open filters like the neuspeed, BSH, ITG Maxogen, Evoms etc are loud because they are open. Intakes with enclosed filters such as the twintake and VWRacing kits are quieter and more reserved, but you will still get a deeper engine note/grumble.

A couple examples of the gains available

This is an Evoms on a completely standard car

This is a REVO stage 2 K03 2.0TFSI Golf GTI. The blue line is the Forge Twintake. This was with no tweaks to the map at all. Purely before and after gains from the intake alone.

This is a REVO stage 2+ K04 2.0TFSI Golf GTI Ed30. Blue line is the stock air box. The redline is the ITG Maxogen. The extra airflow of the ITG Maxogen alowed them to run more aggressive remap settings hence the big jump in power, and really shows how much the stock intake strangles the power at the top end.

ok so am a go on an intake then , glad for the help guys now which should i buy thats the question ?

The forge one is big bux !

On a stock car I wouldn't bother to be honest, on a stage 1 it would be marginal that you would notice the difference in everyday driving as lets face it you don't always max your car, anything above that and it is a good idea. There is also the insurance hike to consider with the intake. At stage 2+ my VCDS logs showed a jump in boost and MAF figures over the stock intake, so I know it makes a difference then.

I'm on a K04 turbo but still run the standard air filter and intake, but for Rolling road days my intake will be fitted.

I have a Evoms TSI intake on stage 2, but for stage 1 the stock box was good enough, so decent intake is good for stage2 and up. Cost 200+ at JKM.

I have the BSH TSI race intake kit on mine and independently tested on a standard mk6 golf gti and gave 13bhp. Its a complete one piece design and love the way it looks. Have heard that one of the BSH kits on the FSI sounds like a duck quacking lol, but thankfully no animal noises from mine lol. Ive noticed a big midrange improvement on my car with it fitted and essential for me as will be changing downpipe and going straight to stage 2 in the near future.
