Design Flaws...

Featured Replies

In your opinion, what is the most annoying design flaw on your car?

For my it's only a small thing but hurts like hell when you hit it...

There is a small plastic bracket the the petrol filler cap is connected to by a rubber wire...

Whenever I open the cap I smash my finger off it, even though I know it's there...

  • For me is the door windows - mirrors on both sides cause when it rains you are unable to have a rear view from them, plus the central mirror that occupies a lot of driver's view area.

  • I dont like the door handles on the inside.

  • I quite like the shape, everything these days seems to have curves etc, I like the boxy look

The actual fuel flap should be unlocked from the inside. Like on the mk1 I hate having to go to back, forget keys, go back to get keys to unlock fuel cap!!

The horrible tangerine peel interior which has been around since the beging on man :(

The vortex (estate at least) that it creates which means after a journey the back end is dirtier than the front. I was on on the m-way at 70 and it 'rains' on my rear screen its that bad!

  • No rear interior light
  • Chop 6" off the roof height
  • Bigger DSG paddles

The hard-to-read grey-on-grey speedometer markings.

flaws with my polo

No light in the glovebox

The heated mirror switch on the mirror adjuster

No coming home function

only one reverse light

No light in the glovebox

Mine does??? Or at least I thought it did...

<< goes to check

Checked, definitely has a light

Bottom box has light and air con, top has neither

12v socket and aux socket should be nearer the front as the charge wire on sat nav gets in the way of handbrake so does the jack lead (none mdi)

I dont like the door handles on the inside.

I'm assuming that you mean the positioning rather than you'd prefer to put your arm out of the window to use the exterior door handles :)

I find them a bit too far back so when I go to open the door I just grab the door shut rather than the handle.

The heated mirror switch on the mirror adjuster.

Bigger DSG paddles.

And the way my left knee is always in the wrong position with the center console. I either have to sit too close to the steering wheel or too far back to avoid my knee resting on the angle of the center console. I guess it's just a design fault with me. :(

No dim function on the dash lighting.

Height of the car.

Interior handle material.

Double tap to unlock all doors (yes I know it can be changed!)

Plastic finish on the door interiors.

On the upside though (yes not inkeeping with the thread topic but feel it unfair to pick on the bad points) compared to my wife's Rav4, which was nearly twice the price, it has various features which are far superior.

no 1: the way the water runs in the open window when you pull away after a night of rain. obviously, the answer is 'don't open the window'!! BUT, it links in with number 2; the way the interior steams up. no 3: the 12v socket doesn't switch off with the ignition. I know a lot of people probably like this, but I've got a 10yr old and have a multiple charge socket in the back which plugs in the front. To be fair, I should probably try to remember to unplug it and not rely on a 10yr old!

Should have been much much lower ride height as standard

The pink fleshy thing steering it. The weak link in an otherwise well designed package

Seriously though:

Having to be double jointed to change a sidelight bulb

Reflection of dash in windscreen

Swirling vortex of water next to the wing mirrors when it rains

Noisy fan

The seat height adjuster which I seem to get caught on every time I get out the car!

Nothing really bothers me to name it as a flaw.

Hmmm, I agree with a few things.

Fuel cap rubber string is annoying

Don't like where the interior door handles are placed, preferred them where they were in the Mk1

It's a bit too tall, which makes it draggy.

12v and Aux sockets should be nearer the front.

Side windows don't stay clear in the rain, often cant see the mirrors because of that.

Standard seats could be a bit more supportive at the sides.

That's about it though.

Definitely side mirrors blocked by rain on windows is the biggest design flaw for me. Very frustrating

For me, just the rain run off on the side windows.

got to love the Dsg
