312mm Brake Upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi,

As has been covered a thousand times on this forum by many others, I too would like to upgrade my Fabia vRS with Octavia vRS front brakes. As I understand it, the only parts required are;

Caliper and carrier assembly,

Discs and pads

However, does anybody have the OE Skoda part numbers for the above as I have trawled the net but to no avial. Any help gratefully received.

Cheers.

How much would it be roughkly for a brembo conversion complete???

I agree that Brembo brakes would be the more desirable option, but I have an opportunity to get some free octavia brake parts providing I can determine the OE part numbers!!

All the dealers I have tried so far won't give part numbers without an octavia chassis number which I don't have. Any ideas?

Brembo brakes cost

If they are 312mm brakes they will fit the Fabia, they are all the same.

I assume the "Skoda" part numbers for the 312 conversion would essentially be the OEM brakes for the octavia vRS? I can't find the part numbers either, but going into any dealer and say you want the entire braking system from the front of an octy vRS, and they should be able to help with few worries. :D

all gen parts for the conversion will come to around

Also the Skoda 312 ones were considered 'easier to live with' for non-track use (and some track use if you're into it). The Brembos work better at very high speeds only and won't benefit you on normal roads unless you are in 'definitely loosing license if you get caught' figures ;)

Call me an retired old fart, but WHY? If the manufacturer had thought 312mm discs were necessary they'd surely have fitted 'em! The 288mm standard discs on my 2003 130PD have never failed to stop me and never have I experienced fade (even towing a caravan). A well, it's your money!

and a very old thread

Towing a caravan with a Fabia VRS? Tut tut

If there's a chance that spending

I think the VRS brakes as standard are sufficient, but don't feel it. I think this has been said by several members in the past. The VRS brakes will stop the car easily and very quickly, but with 312mm brakes it probably feels a bit better.

They also look alot better...:D

I'd agree with the "feel" comment, a couple of times I've had to break suddenly and although the 288mm stopped me in time, they certainly did not "feel" like they were going to. The 312mm brakes inspire confidence right from the time you press the pedal down.

My view, entirely!!

I have just got a set of TT calipers and carriers off the 225BHP 1.8t for

If it's part numbers you're after try Brakeworld. Importers and distributors of automotive brakes & filters.

Their online catalogue it abundant with info on braking products. You can find out most of the dimesions of the discs and the caliper's piston diameter if you so wish!!! They also have 99% of part numbers on there. A bit of time spent looking and you can find out what other cars have the same brakes fitted too!!!!

I believe they're quite reasonable on price.......

Manufacturers tend to fit brakes which are just about adequate, having driven both, the 312s are more confidence inspiring if your a hard driver; across country the ability to stop better is of more value when making progress than more power in my view

After being in a vRS with 312's it feels like it could stop on a 10p piece - I was nearly garotted by my seatbelt in the Missile. :D

The 288's do need to be pushed hard to stop the car but they've always done the job for me without fade. The car is quite heavy though, especially over the nose (can't be much lighter than the Octy?) so I can easily understand why people fit 312's especially on some of the faster ones.

Hehe I've got a Polo and sticking the 312's on, upgrading from 256mm!!! And I already think the 256's are very good, I reckon the 312's may actually throw me through the windscreen!

Why am I doing the conversion you may ask... Answer: 2.8 VR6 next year :p :p :p

Keep up the good work lads!

:)

Is that a straight swap? or do you need the hubs changed for that?

My understanding is that you need different hubs, and Ross has said more than once that they're like rocking horse waste ;)
