Wasted by a METRO

Featured Replies

just been trashed off the lights and then some more and more again and all i could see was his little tail lights in the distance. had to attempt to follow him and find out what was underneath tha bonett. turns out he has a 1.8 vvti engine from an mg rover pushing 180 bhp so i wasnt so distressed that i had been totally embarrased, apparently eats scoobies for breakfast. my hat of to him very impressive.

Someone on ClioSport has a 1.2 with a 1.8T Audi S3 engine, with a revo remap and a few other mods it has 300+ bhp and only weighs in at 800 kg, but it looks completely standard :D

Two of those at Anglesey last time out - yes quite fun little motors, and impossible to tell from the outside... was it petrol blue metallic?

Quite a few being used as track day cars now witht he 1.8 K series in, potent little bleeders.

bloke up my road has a metro with a 1.8 in it. not sure which 1.8 it is though. and its red btw

Theres one just down the road from me. 1.8vvt engine form the MGF.

This one is nightfire red and has looks quite unassuming - has a little vvc inside sticker on the back.

Sometimes get to try and play with it on thr way to work but its usually long gone before i get near.

this one was red. lowered suspension. other then that was fairly normal metro, apart from the warp drive on it!

This is the one by me.

Not bad.

As nick mentioned, there were a couple at Anglesey, a 130 bhp and one with 180bhp+

they were very pokey on the straight but seemed to struggle a bit in the bends.. probably due to the small wheels and brakes :D

tis the little known 'hover metro'

never caught on really

got a ride in one.once.......an experience never to be forgotten :D

v6+4wd+loads of power....even twin turbo in some :)

bloke round the corner from me had, always on a trailer and sometimes very dirty :D

Boy I hope they upgraded the standard brakes - even the fastest Rover 100 has rubbish brakes compared to the Furby...

When I was at junior school, one of the other kids Dad's had one of these beasts. Very fast, but very easy to spin due to the short wheel-base :D

there is a red metro with a 1.8vvc lump in here in the hull area and he has embarrassed many cars including two people i know, one was a civic type r with nos and the other a lancer evo 5 which whilst trying its best to catch the metro blew his transmission

don't care what anyone says the metro couldn't beat the evo off the line but maybe on the move due to weight

Mine was the blue one at Anglesey ... but I seem to remember it was the corners where we were catching you guys up  We were running slicks though.

Mine is in Retro Cars mag this month. We don't take the cars too seriously, at the end of the day, they're still Metros - good cheap fun though.

god to hear some down right honesty

dont under estimate them, like i said my friend leon has a p reg evo 5 and wasnt expecting the metro to take off like a scalded cat and in trying to chase after it blew the transmission,i was not there but as he told me himself then i take it as been true cos he`s hardly likely to admit to it unless it happened,he would at least say it was a higher powered car that did him

Doesn't matter how powerful the car is (or even the power/weight ratio) if it can't lay the power on the road. With the Metro being such a light car and front wheel drive, I suspect there is only so far tuning the engine can go without it just sitting at the lights on the red line laying down rubber - rather than going anywhere. However, once it gets traction (and manages to keep it) then you might have real problems.........

Guess it is much to do with skill as grunt. :)

thats more like what i was trying to say :o

Sorry dude :)

Still think it's a great laugh when you think 'yeah I'll take that one' - after all, it is a bit of fun sometimes, as long as you don't cut up others or cause dangerous situations it's fine by me :D

Same with the in-gear acceleration. I surprised a beamer driver with that one when he left a 4..5 car gap in the fast lane near my work. I basically planted my car at the front of that gap, making sure not to cut anyone up, but you could see the beamer recognise I was easily going to make it. Initially he floored it, didnt manage to close the gap more than about a car length so still plenty of room  - think he was a little surprised but he took it well :D

why be sorry, you did better than me :D
