Y reg Granada Ghia estate anyone?

Featured Replies

Seen at a fairly local garage/car restorer, but I think £5k might be a bit steep

Not something you see much of these days though

When I was young, it was always slightly dodgy types that had these! Would love the last Granada (not the Scorpio) with the 2.9 24v Cosworth lump... a very swift armchair.

Looks lovely for a 30 year old car. I ran a 1986 2.8i ghia for quiet a few years, really comfortable and a great cruiser. The car did many booze cruises to France, and who cared that it only did 20MPG as petrol was quiet cheap back in the early 1990s when I owned it.

Wow. B)

My first car when I was 17 was an X reg 2.8 V6 Granada Estate in blue.

Not the Ghia like that though, I had to settle for a GL.

I ran a 2.8 V6 Capri around when 19 and perhaps it sums up how much times have changed!

a) Try and fuel these cars up now.

B) Around that age band try to obtain insurance that isn't equivalent to a mortgage value.

Cars of their time but love em all the same!

I remember I used to get about 15mpg. I had the carb version, not the 2.8i.

My insurance was £300 TPFT per year, still a fair amount 20 years ago. But I bet that would be twenty times more now!!!

For sure mate. The carb'd version drank a bit more but I didn't get any much more than that. Mind you it was worth it for that angry growl ;)

Mine was £400 a year around 24 years back and my lad was quoted £7.5k at 17/18!!! Happy days!

Nice looking car, a friend of my Dads had a 2.8 ghia x Executive, was a really nice car with big leather seats and really comfy. Also came with a 4 speaker radio cassette with an Amp and a little Joystick to selet which speaker you wanted music from.

Nice car, I remember when we had those new at Europcar, 2.8GL saloons and Estates and they had a job lot of B registration 2.8i Ghia X Estates. The new hatchback Granada that tooh over from it, didn't seem to be as special.

Re-spray Black, Gold wheels, go on I dare you

I remember these well as my uncle had one. The 2.8 i Ghia X estate was the only Ford that was a bit posh and antiques dealers used to love them. I remember the big T bar of the automatic gear shifter and the lovely boom the V6 made when the car pulled away. I always liked the sound of the Cologne V6. The car looks immaculate and I reckon you could get it for £4K if you haggled (don't know what the miles are). 80s cars are back in vogue now with the whole 80s nostalgia thing. Only 80s estate I would rather have is a Merc W123 230 TE but good ones are over £10K and as rare as hen's teeth.
