Shark remap /sts box from GNJ Motorsport Lancs ( plus life story !)

Featured Replies

I've been lurking on this fantastic forum for a couple of years now since buying my little daily runabout VRS....Bought it with 85000 on the clock, 1 carefull 'lady' owner, full history and very tidy for its age. My only gripe was that the suspension was a little tired and could have done with renewing. 10-15 years ago (if they made the bloody things then !) i would have slammed it on the deck, added all the shiny extras and well the worlds your lobster....I know i'm digressing from the thread title but i'll get to my point soon. Sooo i put up with the tired suspension for 15 months and then after reading review after review i decided to go for the eibach 25 mm drop springs with all new OEM shocks, mounts and bearings. i'm pushing 40 yrs old and wanted a compromise of comfort / handling without breaking the bank and possibly my 3rd vertebrae. Totally transformed the car, i'm sure uprated dampers are worth the extra coin but for me this set up is perrrfect.

Then after a little more sliding down the slippery slope of ' what else can i do to it ' i renewed the brakes. A few weeks later one morning after work, my regular lift share turned up in a Cupra tdi 160 bhp and gave me a little spin, immediately chucking me to the bottom of the slippery slope realising my little runabout needed a little tickle in the power department. ..... I only wanted a tickle, the old girl has just hit 100,000 and after more reading through this forum i opted for the SHARK stage 1 remap conveniently available from Graeme at GNJ MOTORSPORT (www.gnjmotorsport.com/) in Clayton le moors Lancs.

I opted for the STS box also so that i can put car back to std whenever i may need and also now that ive actually fallen off the bottom of the slippery slope i can add any future maps from SHARK if and when the mid life crises kicks in..............

Took the car out last night after loading in the modded map myself through the STS box (10 minute job) and all i can say is WOW. Anyone thinking of using the Shark guys for their VRS should in my humble opinion not look any further. Totally transformed the car, Pulls smoothly (petrol turbo smooth) right to the limit, engine honestly is quieter, no smoke, fuel consumtion actually better than before the map (steady driving) and absolutely pulls like a train. Ive had some top motors over the years, some much point to point faster but also much more coinage, however this map has transformed my daily runabout into honestly one giant (little) heap of FUN.

Graeme at GNJ thanks for your top service/communication, and anybody else taken the time to read this review and thinking of the remap route then GO FOR IT ......Ha ha. Absolutely love this car.

Thanks for listening, hav a good day,

Chris.

Great to see such a good review for Shark and glad you are enjoying it!

I will deffo be using them for my remap on my 1.9 TDI.

Did you have it on the dyno or did they just send you the STS without needing to take it into their garage?

Why did you deal with a third party & not just go to shark directly?

Loved my STS Shark map on my old car, they are some of the smoothest maps I've driven on.

Because Graeme lives 10 mins away from me, any probs (unlikely from read reviews??)easily sorted, and his reviews on audi and other vw forums speak volumes. He's also a topbloke, answrs texts and calls almost instantly and just gave that little feeling of confidence. Couldnt fault him even though all contact and discussions were over bank holiday weekend. As Avalon said above, this map is soo smooth you could be forgiven for thinking u werent driving a diesel !

Graeme doesnt have a dyno at present but had my motor checked over before hand including fault codes (non present) and at the end of the day if id travelled all way down south i'd still only be getting a generic satage 1 anyway. The acceleration from around 60 to 110 is astonishing by the way (private road). I wasnt going to bother with the sts box but there was a hundred pound discount off the map so for 50 quid extra it was a no brainer really. i can always put back to std if i need plus it has the vagcom reader built in as a bonus .
