What is the real joke about this is the car that went up in flames was mine!!! and guess what car I have replaced it with a SKODA OCTAVIA VRS!!!!

Simon

Aprrently your dead mate.......hope your car got done for man slaughter :giggle: nice to see you stuck with the car though alot of people would have been put off

my old vti was a 18i and was rubbish below 5000 revs but I would not say its was slow,it takes more effort when driving to keep in vtec but it was just as quick as my tfsi octavia round the doors before it was remapped that is.

Iv had lots of jap sports cars Hondas nissans toyotas etc and the build quality is plasticy but the reliability of jap cars is first class and none of them cost me a penny.

I love my Vrs but always in the back of my mind is will it Cause problems like u hear a lot. Touch wood it will be fine.

I have had a few jap cars,same feeling,touch wood

i had a CTR before the vrs my first jap car, it was quick did have kpro ecu had it for less than 6 months got bored of the car , interior was very bland and basic and bodywork like a tin can ,but handled like on rails! but i had to get back to a vag and this octavia is one of the best i have had!

Civic is made in Swindon, except the hybrid one I think. It is patriotic to buy one!

All but Type R are dog slow by not having a turbo, Type R has more torque than I thought and revving to 8K is so much fun!

Thanks to the Honda site admin team for closing the thread

Thankyou all of you here for your input

I loved the Civic for its looks and engine...but the build quality...Paint..suspension, let it down

It did not meet my expectations and I had to come back to Skoda

Lets draw a line under this topic now. Thanks

Always the same with forums one make slagging of another etc etc.

I used to have a accord, all I can say was it was great lovely drive well specced, nice to drive etc etc.

I've now got an Octavia which I also like, go figure someone who likes two different makes of car. :giggle:

Looks like Honda's owners are following Briskoda a lot. Good to know.

Loved the older Civic type R, but would rather have a dose than own one of the new ones!

Maybe Civic fans should be aware of their recal history.... in case any are looking in here I post this for completeness of course

NHTSA Recall History

1998-07 Honda Civic GX compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle: In the event of a severe interior fire, the CNG tank may rupture, explode, and be ejected from the vehicle. Dealers will install a heat insulator material to the rear seat back.

2001 sedan: A small amount of water in electrical connection of fuel pump could lead to corrosion and engine stalling. Dealers will inspect and replace affected parts.

2001: Fuel-filler neck may have insufficient clamping and could become dislodged in an accident resulting in fuel leakage and fire. Dealers will inspect and adjust hose clamps.

2001: Two recalls for defective rear seatbelt buckles. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace defective buckles.

2001-02: Air-cleaner box cover may be damaged resulting in a broken piece possibly lodging in throttle linkage. This could lead to erratic throttle behavior. Dealers will inspect air cleaner box for damage, locate and remove broken piece, and replace cleaner-box lid.

2001-02: The headlight wire harness may overheat and cause the low beams to fail. Dealers will inspect and replace affected parts.

2001-03: The driver's airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure. If an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture. Metal fragments could pass through the air bag cushion material possibly causing injury to vehicle occupants. Dealers will replace the airbag inflator free of charge.

2001-05: Incorrect washer on some front seatbelt anchors could restrict anchor movement, making seatbelt improperly positioned for certain occupants.

2001-2001 Civic 2-door and 4-door: This recall is related to a series of recalls on these vehicles in which Honda is replacing the inflators within the driver's side air bag to address a defective condition. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's air bag, the inflator could produce excessive internal pressure that could cause the inflator to rupture with metal fragments striking and injuring the driver or other occupants. Owners of all vehicles on which a replacement service air bag may have been installed will be notified. Dealers will inspect vehicles, and where a defective air bag inflator is identified, the inflator will be replaced, free of charge.

2003 2- and 4-door models: The interlock lever of the ignition switch may unexpectedly deform, which can allow the interlock function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated. Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will remove the original interlock pin and lever within the ignition switch, and replace them with new, designed components. This service will be performed free of ch

I looked at the Civic before getting the VRS. Looks aside (if I was buying on looks I'd have an Alfa) I didn't like the interior of the Civic, trying too hard to be 'cool' and new and I thought it looked like a reflective nightmare of soon to be creaking plastic. Rear vis was appalling and I thought front vis was quite restricted too. The dash is very high (ok seat might have been down) but I fund it hard to gauge where the front of the car was.

I drove and looked at a lot of cars before getting the Octy.

5 years on I'm getting irritated at it for being so good. I think I'd like to change but everything is too slow, over priced, too small, boring etc etc.The only thing that really annoys me about the car is the road tax punch-in-the-guts every summer.

I noticed Civ info has linked This thread to there's, that " Doctor" guy sounds , how shall we say "special " :giggle: nothing like taking a thread out of context Mantamads car going up in Flames due to an incompetent dealer/mechanic not directly Skoda trying to murder the occupants as he quotes

my 1.8 vti vtec had 169 bhp standard,0-60 7 1/2 ish and 139 mph top end, same engine as the integra, red lineing at 7800 add a few mods and they go even harder

I had two honda preludes bb1 2.2 vtec's. The h22a1 engine is a brilliant engine and very well built. Out of both of them the only thing I had go wrong was a rear caliper seizing and cambelt tensioner breaking twice (my fault!!) the dash was like kit of knight rider and the handling was very responsive once you remove and lock off the 4 wheel steer. the problem is with honda being NA if you want to keep it NA tuning is very expensive for little gains and once you start vtec is never the same. I found this out when I updated the cams to skunk2 stage 2 high lift cams with skunk2 spring springs, top hats and valves and Greddy piggyback ECU. I gained 33hp taking it upto 235hp but vtec was near on lost after the remap and idle was 1200rpm. And due to the extra horses the cambelt tensioner failed on me twice and no one made an uprated one. Hondas are great till you start tuning them.

I don't own a VRS petrol or diesel but but my daily is a 2.0 tdi PD140 elegance with a remap and a panel filter. It's very comfortable to drive. Very quick for a diesel and £250 for a 45hp gain you can't really say no. As much of a JDM fan I am the Germans/Czech's know how to build an all in one cars at reasonable price. Most of the skyline owners I know have a VAG/BMW/Merc as a daily simply for comfort.

I always liked the previous CTR but not the current one. Bigger heavier car with same engine = slower

He ceratinly is...'Special' Alan :giggle:

In fact, a complete ..**.....COUGH!!!

In the real world we discovered that the peaky engine demands a different driving style to its turbocharged rivals. You plan your overtaking manoeuvres further in advance and you ensure that you are always in the right gear on the exit of a corner. Simply put, you can’t rely on torque to pull you out of a tricky scenario because the Type-R has none. Well, not a lot

In other words, it needs thrashed before it goes anywhere.

On first impressions the Type-R struggles to impress. It has no torque, a rock-hard ride, Marmite-styling and an interior by Atari

An interior made by Atari Lol :)

Yes, it seems odd to criticise the Type-R for having a competent chassis but I’d happily trade ultimate grip for a little more playtime at moderate speeds

Again, needs more poke without being thrashed.

what is lurking in No Man’s Land? A police car? An autobahn-storming lunatic overtaking at high speed? This poses a big question mark over the car’s safety in my view. And let’s not get started on the lack of rear wiper.

The rear view "the cars safety" strong words.

All points from the long term road tester at CAR magazine, don't get me wrong it had some good points I.e. the handling and fun when thrashing on but when I test drove one I agreed with every point he wrote !

my 1.8 vti vtec had 169 bhp standard,0-60 7 1/2 ish and 139 mph top end, same engine as the integra, red lineing at 7800 add a few mods and they go even harder

Not bad, quicker than Diesel VRSs.

It is the lack of mid-range that grates with the non-turbo petrols after you ahve got use to turbo TSis. Drove an MX5 for a while a couple of years ago. Yes quite quick with the 2 litre engine but gutless until you get it over 5K revs compared to the VAG turbo TSIs. My favourite Hondas were CB900, CB500, MBX80. Drove the Hybrid Civic, quite awful but then so is the Prius and most eco cars I have tried.
