Skoda slated on the Honda Civic forum

Featured Replies

seems just as many pros as antis?

Really no need to comment.

I bought my vRS new last March. At that time a Civic would have been in my budget. I bought the vRS and I'm a happy driver over a year later.

I know that I'd rather have my vRS than a Civic - really no need to tell everyone else that :-)

lol @ "how did injector fire stay out of the press".........IIRC it's only happened to one.

Maybe asking the Civic owners about buying a Skoda isn't the most logical thing to do? ;) ;)

I'd rather a Skoda than a Honda any day end of  My Fabia 1.9TDi (53 plate) hasn't ever let me down, even with the snow in 2010/ 11 and the cold, it started first time every time. Never had it fail at the testers (save for a rear fog bulb which I should have checked beforehand) No welds, leaks, electrical faults, nothing at all has EVER gone wrong aside from normal wear/ tear. Yep, very happy with it:)

er, did I mention the deadlocked rear door issue?

There ain't much point in commenting on it. But having Had a civic in the family I know I made the right choice in my octavia vrs. The build quality of the civic was shocking.

I had a seatbelt buckle shatter in a one month old Nissan, both front discs buckle on a six month old Mazda and a battery boil on a nine month Honda (Civic).

I had a look at getting a new CRV...........................................and bought a Yeti

My first non japanese car, so far over 3,500 miles no rattles or sqeaks and an average of 48.6 mpg with no oil loss, built like a tank, No contest.

And when I drive it, it makes me smile, the Nissans,Mazda's and Honda's never did that. Need I say more? :sun:

I'd not like to pay over the odds for sh1te, would you

Skoda every time for me

Shock horror people on another Forum don't have high opinions of a car they chose not to buy :-)

I'm sure we all feel the same about other brands (Vauxhall, Honda etc) and have our own valid reasons or bad previous experience that prevented you from buying one.... Soft thin sticky paint on all Honda's being one of my biggest turn offs, it's not a big problem to most people but they just end up looking so untidy after a couple of years with stone chips galore... I have had VW's, Seat's, Renaults, BMW's, NIssan's, Mitsubishi's - All have their own problems / niggles but each also have their good points...

Have to say my Skoda does everything 90% well enough for me though, it'll never set the tarmac on fire but i have faith it will start each time I need to go anywhere, will also always have plenty of room for my Detailing gear

Not read the post, but FWIW I had an 05 Accord 2.4 Exec. Just after the warranty expired, it suddenly needed a new gearbox, and the cat needed replacing. With replacement discs all round, I was looking at a bill of £3k. To be fair though the engine was simply unbreakable, and I tried hard enough. The Civic is built in the UK and does not seem to be as well built as the Japanese built cars.....a remapped 2.0TFSI is noticeably quicker than a normally aspirated Civic anyway.

ffs thats my post lol.

how quickly the Japanobox people forget Toyota's mass safety recall due to faulty brakes

The E reg civics were bullet proof, Nearly got a " New shaped " civic in 2006, the showroom car ( brand new had scratchy plastics like a 80s stereo and was worn without driving a mile

I had a honda civic vti for over 8 years and used to rag it most of the time.It never let me down and could take a lot of stick but the build quality, big let down, rattles, thin paint, closer to a mk2 escort than a skoda and the newer ones dont seem to be any better.I looked at a 2 type rs (56 plates)before I got the vrs and they are not in the same leauge on build quality.

What is the real joke about this is the car that went up in flames was mine!!! and guess what car I have replaced it with a SKODA OCTAVIA VRS!!!!

Simon

Ohhh no grizzle i just read your last post on that about civics being slow.......only a matter of time till someone brings up "but we have V-TEC"

Really dont see how they can complain about the interior, i meen their gear stick comes out the dashboard which isnt exactly pretty

My fabia 1 ctr 0, even the owner of the civic said he was shocked and that my fabia was quicker out of corners, a mate of mine runs a japanese tuning company along with a high majority of friends owning turbo honda's along with n/a honda and without a turbo they are slow unless you can drive and you really have to drive them to get any decent performance out of them

I would never buy a civic due to the fact i just plain don't like them, they are ugly the rear is tiny and they dont even have a rear wiper. Also not a big fan of the dash dont know what bit to look at. The driving of the car i don't know as i have never driving one, but have no big plans to drive one.

To be fair to honda they are a well built car but like other jap cars and not a nice place to be inside

Meh.

That's all I have to say on the matter :)

Ive had

1.4, 1.6 vti civics and a 2.0 twin carb prelude

Gotta admit the prelude was the most involving drive and turned the most heads mainly due to the pop up headlights

I went for the tdi bora after the lude for a mix of the torque and economy, hated having to drop to through the box to overtake and sub 20mpg. Shame the exess for a diesel at the time was stupid due to fuel prices

Garage had a 1.8t 6spd bora in quick shot in that and i was sold. Less than 19k on the clock for just under £6k

When that was written off i did look at the 2.2 accord diesel along with the golf tdi and vrs

All cars had their good and bad points

What used to get me when i had the bora was the slagging type r hondas and appaernt owning got on the mk4 forum. On straight roads with modded cars against standard ones. Sorry but as much as i loved the bora your golfs wouldnt have stood a chance in the twisties with a ctr with same mods.

Each to their own the octy suits me for size confort and alothough its no as quick as the bora im hoping a remap helps close the gap a bit as really do miss it at times. Bar the sub 30 average mpg

Iv had lots of jap sports cars Hondas nissans toyotas etc and the build quality is plasticy but the reliability of jap cars is first class and none of them cost me a penny.

I love my Vrs but always in the back of my mind is will it Cause problems like u hear a lot. Touch wood it will be fine.

It's probably not worth saying that my old Honda broke...Or that I have never had any issue with my fabia vRS.

The guy is/was looking for a rise and it worked.

They really are very bitchy on that civic forum!!!

Just had a look and there are several threads on there about Skodas.

One of them is something like 'Sold my Honda for a Skoda'.

Reading that one, it appears that most of the posts support the OP, in other words, they are not surprised that he has moved brand to Skoda.

Overall, it also appears that most people on there accept that Skoda has a better build quality than Honda and that the Skodas are quicker.

No real surprises then!
