Good bye old girl...........

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I big thankyou for all the help and advice(and a little banter) over the last couple of years of this run of Skoda owenership. Ill definatly hang around if you will have me and Ive not come across a much more friendly and well managed internet forum, Thankyou.

I thought I would leave a few comments on my departing 2010 Octavia 1.8 TSI DSG Elegance, which also happens to be 2 years old today.

I have had a love/hate relationship with this car. It is well built and uses quality materials, the dash is simple yet funtional and I like the fact that 'a switch is a switch'. The engine has plenty of power and delivers it smoothly, it is quiet and has not let me down. It has drunk about 3 litres of oil each year between services, the only car Ive ever had to put a drop in between sevices ever. read into that what you will. It is definalty quicker and quieter than my MK1 VRS I had 9 years ago.

It is not without it's faults though. I find DSG more of a pain in the rear end rather than a pleasure. The first 6000 miles or so had the 'novelty' factor but Im getting bored of the hestiation pulling away at roundabouts and junctions, the fine art of the reverse up a hill and the pointless changing down whilst coasting down a hill. The DSG has proven to be un-reliable, my car has recently has a clutch pack fitted to stop an on going judder problem. It has, but can I trust the car again with such a major component failing so premature and the fact the car has had open heart surgary to change it?

The Bolero is also a matter of love/hate for me. The sound is very good for a standard manufacturer offering which primarily is the most important thing. However the speed of the SD card option is just getting irratating now. Ive tried allsorts and I can speed it up a fair bit but its still painfully slow. Were living in the year 2012, if I want music on is it to much to ask to have it on straight away? My £10,000 Fiat Scudo van has a USB port on the stereo and its instant, it is also DAB but that just another rant......

The space is plentyful given the price of the car, it trully is a lot of car for the money and has carted my wife and daughter around perfectly.

Ive not experienced any real tyre wear issues that plaque this forum

On the whole Ill miss the car, the pace has been good but with fuel going up and up and 0% deals on offer from most manufactuers I couldnt resist a change.

Tomorrow I step into a Peugeot 508 2.0 diesel. I know its French, I know their reliability record but then again I bought another Skoda as it was meant to be reliable and it failed in fine form. I take the reliability surveys with a pinch of salt.

Ill definatly take a look at Skoda again in a couple of years time but for now

Vive La France!

Bolero performance must vary as mine is quick with a 32Gb card with 20Gb of MP3's.

Hope you enjoy the new car - post a comparison once you've run it for a few months.

Looks like I'll be looking for a 508 around town then " What Colour".......Oh hang on, no I won't as it will always be getting mended

Only Kidding, if you see me give me a Toot

Enjoy your new motor

You wont miss me mate, Ive only seen two 508 sw's in Harrogate in the 12 weeks since I ordered it and one was black and one was white. They are pretty rare cars at the mo. Mine is a light blue. I hope your wrong about the repairs, I bought it from JCT600 in Menston as Stoneacre came across as a bunch of t***rs so have a fair trek to go for repairs,

Edited by OCScene

I'm sure it will be fine, I've had dealings with Stoneacre in the passed so keep well clear.

Like keep an eye out

Ur buying a Peugeot! Sorry for ur troubles ;)

I know Skoda have issues but I think ur going to regret it!

Best of luck with it tho and ur rite this is a great forum :)

Are we back in the 70s I am not prejudiced against a manufacturer according to the nationality , I have had an Audi a Lexus among many others, we have had two French cars a 206 gti and my wife now has a DS3, the build quality is 1st rate, every car I have ever owned has some sort of issue, bar the 2 French cars! Some people think all French cars are the same as they once had a Saxo that new only cost 6 grand new and came with free insurance, so the cost in real terms was a new car to a recently passed driver was 3 grand, that car was built to a price 10 a penny. The Ds3 is built to order, 6 months waiting list . Hope you enjoy the 508 Andy only seen one you should bring it to a meet, you have only been to one

Thanks mate, im quite excited really and if the press reviews are to be believed, then build quality is top notch. Ill make a point of coming to the next harrogate meet. Show you Skoda boys what real toys in a car are! :giggle:

Good luck with the 508 (saw one for the first time yesterday, and it looked good), you are right to take all the stories with a pinch of salt. A guy down the road from us has a 2001 406 Pininfarina coupe, which he has owned from new, and he has never had a problem with it. I have had 4 Alfas, and never had a breakdown in any of them!

Yes , one says 'Revolution' on it and the other says 'Strike'!

Used a 508 a few days ago for a week. Slow, well equipped and sloppy around the corners. Coupled with the $hitroen PSA EGC gearbox, I couldn't wait to get back into the vRS.

An unfair comparison given one is 110hp delivering 63mpg, suspension set up for comfort against a car giving 200hp with sports suspension. I bet if fuel continues to rise in three years you will be jumping at the change to go green!

My CR is green enough for me.

Have you found the one marked 'Surrender!' yet? :giggle:

There's a button somewhere that when pressed inflates the car into a blockade and sets fire to the surrounding sheep!
