  • On my Polo GTI (same set-up for brakes) I did TAROX B30 - 6 pots. Bonus was they were a kilo each side lighter than the OEM set-up!.

Wow polo looking nice :)

Kie, i think there is already a thread about this and i think golf brakes work but cant remember with model.

There will be a VWRacing 4pot 330mm bbk soon. My car is currently being measured up for it

Those ilusive hub carriers are what stop me from upgrading my weak 256brakes. Can't find any!

lol :)

Buy some MK1 Fabia vRS, MK1 Octavia vRS hubs or any from the same chassis/power output or with 288/312's as standard.

Well that is the idea but where? :( all sales is for brake kits but nothing regarding hub carriers.

Edition38 has plenty - I know you are Greece, but maybe ebay + shipping. Will be heavy!

Or new from Skoda/Seat/VW/Audi etc.

The Seat Ibiza (MK4 amd MK5) will fit and MK1 Leon FR etc

Edition38? Is that an eBay seller?

Sounds good can you put a post up with pictures when finished?

Had to brake pretty sharply from 60 mph yesterday and the brakes don't fill me with confidence. Upgrade on the horizon.

I think its the weakest part of the car.... I cooked them at the wales meet last weekend! yes we were going quickly on a suitable road, but you still shouldnt be able to cook them on a public road! even if they cooked on a track I'd be a little dissapointed. and we all know from other posters thats quite easy with the vRS.

edit: the 6 pots on that polo look mint!

Mine got hot too after a while but normal driving and the odd slam on they are fine, it's only when you're pushing really hard like we were you notice. The stretch we were on when it happened we were making progress for about 8 mins before you could feel the same bite wasn't there. I was at Combe for 15mins and you could smell them.

I'd be interested in those 6 pots when the time comes, they really do look like a proper bit of kit. They fit under standard wheels fine? I bet they weren't cheap though.

Just a little point on up-grading brakes etc.

'basics.' and just my opinion and from my experience.

Yes you want them to work & you want them to work well for your driving.

Normal driving, Hard Sporty driving even track driving.

Now modern cars have ABS, Brake Assist and all sorts, Stability control etc etc

in the old days we had a on,off, on, off and dont have the brakes locking up.

Its easy to get Brake Pads to grip a disc & then you are not braking if the tyre is 'sliding' along the road surface and you are not actually slowing.

Not teaching granny to suck eggs.

But i had a Tuned engine V8 Land Rover, it had great brakes for most of my needs & the brakes never overheated solo or towing because i used the gears mostly as i do on every vehicle.

& i know how to modulate the brake pedal, even in an emergency stop.

A plonker pulled out in front of me in a Mazda.

So un-expected but i still reacted, sadly it was a Slam on the brakes so as not to kill him & a bit of an avoidance steering.

I just stopped as i hit his door & pushed his car around a little.

When all had settled & everyone was OK, i looked at the road.

I had ploughed 2 furrows up the road with my front All Terrain tyres.

The brakes had worked but sadly had locked.

I think if they had not & the vehicle was not so heavy to actually grip the chuckies in the tar, he would be dead.

Point of the story, kind of.

Up-grade brakes in a balanced way.

If your brakes stop you at normal temperature, then brakes that grab the bigger disc harder dores not mean you stop quicker if the tyre is loosing traction and sliding up a greasy or wet surface.

You need the brakes you need and a little more, bigger and harder is not always better.

I get what you're saying but this is why you should also have good tyres too and not ditch finders. Emergency stops less than 40mph I have been fine and it stops well. I've had to brake hard at 60mph and it's stood on it's nose. I think the main culprit could just be cooling when driving hard.

It's more than just cooling. What I experienced was unused brakes, then having to brake sharply from 60 to a near standstill. The front of the car felt like it was stopping on sand.

So what do you have.

Standard Discs? & what pads, & what tyres, tyre pressure?

The car is a little like your dad might have taught you when riding a push bike.

Dont slam on your front brakes you will go over the handlebar.

So back brake and front brake in the right amount.

The vRS has pretty small rear brake discs.

Its also light and not on wide tyres, so it can lock brakes and skip over the surface, and all surfaces are not the same.

You need to set up an Upgraded Braking system.

Discs, Pads, Fluid, Tyres, Brake balance & maybe the Brake systems electronics.

Untill then you have to drive to the system that is fitted, only thing you can do in the next few hours is check and maybe change your pads.

You have brakes that will make the car feel like it was stopping in sand untill then!

simples really.

PS.

You can also use the gears to reduce speed, shift paddles or gear stick available as required.

George,

I'm an advanced Police driver. Thanks for the driving tips :giggle:

Yes, as I commented before, they are going to be upgraded.

Thats good then,

you will have been taught to drive to the vehicle and the conditions then!!

Hope you are a better driver than the Advanced Police Drivers in my area, they seem to like crashing.

Just need some Advanced vehicle Mechanical engineering studies and you will be all the way with upgrades.
