Yeti residuals in Edinburgh hit rock bottom...

Featured Replies

...or at least I assume they must do: every b11gger who could possibly want one seems to have got one by now. I just spotted a brown one on the main street from where I live, three doors down from the silver one and half a block away from the red one. As well as the ones that live round here, and near work, I seem to see one driving about every other day. This afternoon as I was driving back into town I passed two going the other way in less than thirty seconds!

Edinburgh seems to be becoming the Yeti capital of the UK. I'm not really fussed about exclusivity but this is getting ridiculous. Skodas are more common than Vauxhalls round here!

and their VALUE [as opposed to their exclusivity...........?]

Probably as they deal with the cobbles quite well... unlike the octavia, i'm certain the roads round Stockbridge have crumbled my spine to dust.

Stockbridge, Comely Bank, Leith Walk, - Kirkcaldy High Street, Dunfermline.........

All anti- Snow Monster.

They'll learn

I too have noticed lots in Edinburgh and surrounding area. They must all be from the same unfriendly troupe, gaggle, mischief or whatever a group off Yetis are called, as none of them acknowledge you or wave back.

I've noticed a lot more in the Glasgow area too over the last 3-4 weeks. Previously could go weeks without seeing one, I now pass a red one and a silver one every day going in the opposite direction. In the petrol station yesterday waiting in line to get ripped off and what was in front of me, a muscovado 140 4x4!

I think there breeding.

The wife likes to point out that it appears to all be old people driving them which I take offence at.

Well, having waited nearly a YEAR to see another Yeti in Edinburgh after I got mine, I too see them a couple of times a week.

But obviously folk are nicer this side of town as they flash their lights or wave when they see me!

Changed days indeed.

After picking up my Yeti in Stirling in November 2009 and driving around Central Scotland for ages:

Still no definite siting of another Yeti on the road after 6 months and over 6000 miles, mostly in Scotland!

And at last:

Saw only my second Yeti on the road on Wednesday after 9 months and 11,600 miles. It was a red one travelling in the opposite direction along the main street of Bowmore, Isle of Islay (population 3000). It was the first I had seen on the move so I flashed and the passenger waved back!

I was in the car park at a sky building in Livingston today and saw three other yetis. That was just on the walk to my own, but there may have been more elsewhere in the car park.

How far was your walk? How long did it take? And did it do your physique any good at all, apart from the obvious adrenaline rush at identifying some other Yeti?

(sent from an iPad in the kitchen using my stubby little fingers in a rush of excitement........)

Oh God, George has got an iPad!! :giggle: :giggle: :drunk:

Ayr was crawling with them when we were there at Easter too!

What - iPads? (LOL)

You should live around the Crewe area - we have the Bentley factory (used to be called Rolls Royce) and they have The Yeti on their car scheme, they have to wait ages for them (just like the rest of us) and then only get to keep them 6 months !!

The ones I see are all being driven by SWMBOs - probably because HWDWHT has had a say in the choice of car but the other half gets to drive it all the time !!

However I know that we do have some real enthusiasts on here who work at Bentley - those are the ones who do wave back, but I have given up waving at any I see locally on weekdays.

(mine BTW is leased and has a West Country registration 'WG' - all our local ones have a 'DG' Deeside reg)

Blimey, Livingston sounds worse than Edinburgh - I was in Livi this morning and a black Yeti was one of the ten or so other cars in the car park outside the building (not Sky) that I was visiting.

It's not the exclusivity or lack thereof that worries me, it's the way the original, excited, "Ooh, look, another Yeti!" response gets watered down with too much familiarity.

And I am one of those supposedly unfriendly types who doesn't wave - largely because no-one ever waved back at me when I did used to do it, but also because there are just too many around these days for it to be practical to spend my time waving at them all. I reckon I've seen more Yetis the past few days than any other model of SUV. Cashcows, for example, seem to have become rare beasts around here. I reckon I see more Kia Sportages and Hyundai iX35s than I do of those.

What with the large number of Octavias around as well, perhaps Edinburghers are just living up to their reputation of being able to spot a canny deal...

Oh Yes HWDWHT

When I googled it, it came up with Hebridean whale and dolpnin trust ?

Somehow I knew that couldn't be right...... :giggle:

Dunno! But it was crawling with Yetis

Are our Scottish neighbours buying Yetis so that they can drive south on a 'booze cruise' (now Scotland has a minimum price for alcohol)? There's plenty of space with the seats out, and if necessary they'll be able to 'off road' part of the way back to avoid the border controls.

I certainly won't .... minimum price for booze is best thing since the smoking ban!

(now Scotland has a minimum price for alcohol)

It's not actually in force yet.

It's not actually in force yet.

Oh I see. A cunning plan then to provide a short term spending boost to the Scottish economy as people rush out and stock up in anticipation, and then that nice Mr. Salmond says "April Fool" or some equivalent?
