I'm about to order one for the wife. Are there any must have options. I have already included a spare wheel.

Also is the mdi interface exposed as opposed to concealed in the glovebox? Doesn't make much sense.

You can have the mdi retrofitted at a dealer or specialist and then just have the cable run into the glove box. That's what I did.

I wouldn't worry about the MDI cubby hole - it really is pretty deep. I've got a USB stick on mine and you can't see it or the cable at all.

My SE+ was bought from stock at the port so I wasn't able to order any options. The only one the car came with is metallic paint. I would have liked a spare wheel and bluetooth prep (including maxidot) but that's about it. I reckon the SE + has a pretty good spread of standard equipment.

Didn't know it would take usb stick that's good then will use one of them. Better specced than my octy vrs this fabia!

The dealer should give you the option of an ipod, female USB or male mini-USB connecting cable when you collect the car.

You can pick the leads up fairly cheap on ebay, I have several.

The Swing head unit isn't great for navigating around the menus and tracklists etc with it's one line at a time display.

When you have one of the big touch screen head units in the MDI is great.

PLEASE get the 105 bhp instead!! My wife got the 86 and then tried my 105 - now she desparately wishes she'd got the 105 - there is a big difference in the performance, esp under acceleration. Hope you still have time to change the order, sorry for the late post.

Thanks but we test drove the 1.2 tsi 86bhp and it was fine for my wife, in fact about the same as her current 1.6 megane. I'm not bothered since the furthest I will drive it is to the shop down the road. We had a 1.2 3 cyl 69bhp as a courtesy car this wee and whilst it was a bit slow it sounded great!

Always tick the ESP box myself; saved us grief two or thee times, what with wildlife running into the road and lane changers not looking whats in the outside lane, oh and failing to indicate either :S

Have not driven the 105 bhp one but I can not see why anyone would say the 86 bhp is lacking in power.

Just driven our 86bhp Estate 300 miles through France to catch the ferry home, cruise around 80 mph and it only dropped speed on one up hill stretch. I can live with that for the Lower cost.

The car was fully laden with a large roofbox on top as well, economy was not great at 33mpg though.

On options plus one on ESP, really does work well.

My dad has the 86bhp and I have the 105bhp and they both feel similar when your nipping around changing gear at low revs but I think (might be wrong) that my 105 monte pulls for a bit longer in the rev range and im getting similar mpg as him changing gear when the car tells me too so why not go for the 105 just incase unless you want to save every penny as its a second car?

If I had the choice i'd always go for the one with a bit more oomph!

Granted the vRS is a bit bigger step up from a 105bhp Monte but I couldn't take a step back and let Rob (new owner of my MK1 vRS) be faster than me :D

Everyone will say if you can go for the 105bhp I think 2bh the two below are a waste of time unless insurance is a issue because the 105 does better fuel than the 1.2 and only slightly worse than the 86 but give you over a second quicker 0-60 (yeah the vrs will always be the best but the fuel gets worse) I got 51mpg adverage on a trip from maidstone kent to bournemouth then driving around and back again doing 330 miles in total  what an amazing engine! (a slow 65mph on motorway)
