Hey all,

Quick question not answered by a search...

Where is the fuel filter on the vRS and is it a dead easy job to change/any special instructions?

My car has 58k on it and there is no sign of it being done in the bills etc, so I am guessing it could do with one? Along with plugs and a panel filter.

Thanks,

Nath.

  • Thanks for all the helpful hints and tips guys. So far as I can make out, there is nothing at all to be worried about or to take special care over.... And on an unrelated matter, if you'd like to spo

  • I'd watch the clips on the filter. They can be tricky !!

I'm guessing I need to be careful of the clips? Is there something about the clips I should be caerful with? I'll take care with the clips :)

Thanks guys, might have a crack at it this weekend. I'll be careful with the clips :)

because if you break the clip, the entire fuel line must be replaced

yes, they can break easily, there are clip removal tools you can use, i bought a set on ebay for about £7, worth it imo

Ah right, that makes sense. I bet a mate of mine will have some I can borrow, if not, I'll do just that to save potential breakage.

MIND THEM CLIPS!! :giggle:

yes you must take care, be careful, the clips are delicate..

care is the work of the day:>

I haven't got a Mk1 Octy, but if I did have, and needed to change the fuel filter, one thing I would be careful with, is the clips.

I changed mine last month and did it without breaking the clips but the hose clip holding the filter on fell to bits, lucky i had one about the right size in bottom of my toolbox

It's easy enough to do,

Oh one thing I just thought, you gotta be real careful with the clips.

HTH

Easy to do, just remember to depressurise the fuel system first (take out the fuel pump fuse and run the engine till it dies). You will get fuel coming out of it so be ready.

The jubilee clip holding it on will be corroded too, so might be a b*tch to get off. Mine's now held on with a massive cable tie.

Oh, and be careful with the clips!!

Mine's also held on with a cable tie. Loads of fuel comes of of the filter when you take it off!

I had no trouble with the clips but I hear you should be careful with them.

Haha, jubilee clip was totally seized solid on mine too!

Yep give that jubilee (or Terry) clip a good WD40 blast day before you attempt!

It took me quite a while (and a lot of sweat) to carefully undo the clips. Quite difficult to see how they work until it is apart. I had no fuel leaking issues and did not de-pressurise before hand. I was wearing safety goggles just in case. I probably did the job on Sat morn, so the car had not been used since Fri driving back to work. I notice opening the drivers door primes fuel pump, so maybe dont do that before changing filter?

Yep, the pressure will disappear overnight, but as soon as you open the drivers door or put the ignition on, it will re-pressurise.

You forgot to mention that you have to be careful with the clips and not to break them lol

Oops, that as well! :D

I replaced mine on my mk1 vrs,it was the original @ 120k,apart from been careful with the clips make sure you fit the filter with the fuel flow direction arrow pointing the same way as the original,i had to fit a new retaing clip as mine broke when trying to undo it.
