Is this suspiciously cheap?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or if it's ok but I have been looking for a Fabia for a while now but I don't have a lot to spend. I'm not too fussed on which model but I prefer diesels. I saw this on autotrader and it seems remarkably cheap to me so I just wondered what you guys thought. I know the mileage is high but from everything I've read that seems pretty irrelevant in these cars. And advice greatly appreciated as I've been stitched up too many times before. I guess it's possible the previous owner is on here....

Not really, 130K I would say its a fair price

seems about right, it's got the right engine and 'box, 130K is just run-in.

Been to see stuff from him before - one of these one-man band operating out of his front room type affairs. Turned up late by more than 30 minutes when we went to see a Leon he had. His brother drove the car to his house, while smoking which didn't give a great impression.

He had another red Fabia a while ago which some people on here went to see and he was a bit 'funny' about.

Edit - same guy as we're referring too in this thread: http://www.briskoda....__fromsearch__1 - post 18 onwards . . .

Not the same car I'm sure - but might give you an impression of the dealer if he's a distance from you.

Thanks for the replies. Just realised its no good anyway as I need to attach a tow bar to be able to carry my son's motocross bike occasionally. Doh.

Can tow with the 1.9 100bhp tdi IIRC. Not much use if you're set on the vRS though! Does the Seat Ibiza FR or Polo GT suffer the same towing restrictions? They're the same car mechanically . . .

I'm not set on the VRS, just been looking at Fabia's. I'd settled on finding a 'comfort' hoping I might find an 'elegance'. I only had 2k to spend but saw that and thought it might be worth finding the extra. I don't know about the Seat or Polo, cant' imagine I'd get a GT for around 2k, but Polo's are about the only other car I've looked at that I like, bit small but then I'm used to driving something the size of a minibus!

Haven't looked at Ibiza's. Back to the internet I go......

Get a 1.9 TDi, and put the vRS kit on it?

D

dont see them much cheaper than that, though ive jus paid 2800 for mine with 92k

I've gone back to looking at the 1.9 Tdi's now. I had a look at Seat Ibiza's yesterday and found on their own forum there are masses and masses of common problems listed by owners! Is it just the FR that has the same engine? I was under the impression Seat's were as sound as Skoda's but not from what I read yesterday

Seat/polo/Fabia all more or less the same cars underneath. Never heard any horror stories on the vag circuit about Seats either.

The only major issue I've heard regarding the SEAT's is the injector failure's which they seem to suffer with, but I know that there has been a recall on the car's now to have them replaced with a new loom and injector's, so no need to worry about a £3-4k bill should the car suffer from this problem

The injector issue is the Leons dude and I think others within the 2.0 pd TDi vag range.

The Ibiza itself doesn't have any major faults the rest (polo/fab)don't suffer from tbh. My fr's logbook states its rated for towing up to 750kg :)

It's a model, basically the fabia vrs same pd130 engine. The pre facelift formula sport(I think) had a pd130 too and could be had for your budget I guess.

The FR is the same engine as the vRS - the 130 version (also some of the earlier sports had the 130 too).

I only suggested the FR originally incase it was specifically a vRS (with the 130 engine) you were looking at as the FR provides an alternative.

They're a sporty version of the Ibiza, but not as sporty as the top-spec model - the Cupra (good luck for £2k though!).

I can only find a handful of FR's for sale under 2k and they're all too far away. Being new to all this what's special about the FR?

Thanks guys. I was originally looking (and back looking ) at the 1.9 tdi's, any model I could afford really. Just got excited by the VRS I thought I might just be able to afford! So definitely not set on that spec engine at all. And I need to be able to occasionally tow so need something I can fit a bar too. You've given me loads of ideas though, just got to wait for the right one to come up now.

Tow bar can be fitted to the VRS long as you don't mind hacking into the bumper.

...and being illegal

To answer the thread topic though - yes it does. steer clear.

This Ibiza Sport is essentially an early FR.

Mechanically identical to the Fabia VRS underneath but a damn site cheaper.

I had a yellow one before buying the red VRS and it was excellent.

Ignore the £995 price as in the ad it's actually £1995 - still on budget though ;)

I've read enough about the tow bar issue to know I wouldn't go there. Knowing my luck I get pulled the second I leave the drive. Besides which, I'm not sure I'd want to hack up the car even if it's a tiny amount of risk scratches etc.

Thanks for the like PastyBoy, its too far from me which is why I wouldn't have seen it in the many searches I have done!

These are a few of the one's I'm thinking about at the moment:

http://www.ebay.co.u...9#ht_524wt_1397

http://www.autotrade...rs?logcode=visc

yeah i didn't check by location just searched for the cheapest "Sport" going ;)

I'd take the Red Ibiza on eBay if the price stays withint your budget, then the Fabia, and probably only take the silver Ibiza if it stayed under a grand

Happy hunting

Also it doesn't have to be a "Sport" to get the 130 does it?

Mine is an "SE" and has the 1.9 130 engine.

Ah but yours is a Cordoba which didn't get a "Sport", an "FR" or a "Cupra".

Parkers says the "Stylance" Cordoba also got the PD130 although one assumes it got inferior toys to your "SE"

Ah. That explains it then. Mine has none of the Sport, FR or Cupra styling that gives it away so more "stealthy" then.

I forgot about the Stylance. I think it doesn't have climate control or alarm and possibly a few other bits here and there. Suprising they still put the 130 in it though.

What ever car you go for I think it's safe to say it has to be a 130... just for the extra towing power of course! Not only is the PD100 down by 30hp but also looses out on about 60 lb-ft of torque. Plus it only has 5 gears not 6. The 6 speed really does make a difference on the motorway. 70mph in mine equates to just shy of 1900rpm from memory.
