Sony A35 Lens Question Help needed

Had this camera for a fair while now easy to use but zoom isnt up to much, lens is a 18-55.

We want to increase zoom capabilitys without losing picture quality I will be buying second hand to start with to see how we get on plus not a lot of spare cash at mo :wall:

I've seen a sigma 70-210 will these offer me much more zoom without to much loss of picture quality?

Anyone got any examples of pictures from these to show differences?

I keep looking online but they start waffling on about noise all i want is a better zoom lens so any help will be gratefully accepted.

Cheers Folks

Hi. Happy to see someone with Sony, as not many people use them.

I would not recommend 70-210mm simply because you will have to change lens more often. I would buy 28-300 Tamron or 18-200 Sigma/Tamron. Can't say much about image quality on 28-300, but friend of mine has 18-200 Sigma and it is very good. I bought 75-300 and I was happy about image quality, but chaniging lenses became annoying and dangerous. Don't know what your budget is, but you could consider 18-250mm Sigma. Then that lens could be on your camera all the time, no need for kit lens.

For a lens on a budget go for Tamron 55-200 (same as sony early version) It is unbelievably sharp at such a low price £50-£90 (aim for £60). Dont bother with Sony 75-300 as it is a bit carp. Although at a current £149 might be worth considering.

FYI I sold my 55-200 when I bought a 70-300 GSSM. and regretted it, Have now bought another one.

And yes it is almost as sharp as the 70-300.

Another possibility is get a Minolta 70-210F4 "Beercan". Although I had one and wasn't impressed.

Avoid Sigma unless they have built in motors (HSM) as sony cameras strip the plastic gears in the lens.
