Yeti bonnet bra

Featured Replies

I would rather have the stone chips :whew:

Good luck to you - my choice!

ETTO but IMHO that is fugly!

After 11.5k miles I have one small undectable chip on my bonnet, which I carefully touched in, much less obtrusive than what appears to be an ill fitting cover?

Sorry but NO!

I have 15K miles on mine and the only damage is a very small dent where a small stone hit the bonnet badge.

Again, undetectable unless you know where to look for it.

Blooming hell - calm down. The Yeti is itself not the prettiest of cars, but I love it all the same. I only posted because there maybe a Yeti owner (like me) who wants one. Just because you are all lucky to have no stone chips/dents, doesn't mean you never will. I think some of the accessories that some owners put on their cars are stupid/ugly but I keep those thoughts to myself....let's keep this civilised please gents.

Just a note, there are other methods of protecting paint from stone chips, you see it often on the rear side sills of cars, even on my car from factory.

I think Venture sheild springs to mind, same stuff used to protect helicopter blades, very tough and the best part, undetectable unless scrutinising the car.

I have venture shield on mine undetectable, bonnet bras case more harm than good fact , they are abrasive to paintwork

That's an absolute incorrect statement. I had one fitted to a brand new VW California camper for over a year and 10000 miles, with no damage whatsoever. Anyway - "you pays your money and you take your choice"

"With these custom-fit bonnet stone guard bras you will protect your front against those ugly stone-chips or rust on those damaged parts"

So why not fit one of our even uglier rubbers mats instead :giggle:

Don't get it. There are so many more discreet and equally effective solutions to protecting the paintwork than a bra.

Whilst I can see the advantages, it's not to my taste, but as it's not compulsory I don't see the point in knocking someone who wants to fit one.

On the other hand, I do now have 4 stone chips on the bonnet that most certainly are noticeable, despite careful use of touch-up paint.

Each to their own (etc) :x

No if you had put a light meter on the paint work you would see it had been abrasive, just like an outdoor car cover they case more damage than protection . The camper has a more vertical bonnet, on a yeti it will flap in the air . Some people use sweeping statements like I take my car to the £5 carwash every week and my paintwork is perfect. I snow foam mine before I rinse and shampoo sing a lambswool mitt , then rinse and towel dry, even after taking that much care I still get swirls, so need to machine polish once a year

As "Speedsport" has stated "I don't see the point in knocking someone who wants to fit one" - wish I had never posted.

Think I will just take it off and get a carbon fibre bonnet wrap done instead on my white Yeti as can be seen here http://www.superskoda.com/images/Plasty/yet-frdif2.jpg.

Should look good with the black Matterhorn alloys. Might even stick on some black 22's with a set of coil-overs. That should satisfy the show and shine brigade!

Don't get upset, you aren't being 'knocked', people are simply responding to your post.

That's what happens on a public forum. I'm not sure what you expected, it would be a little naive to expect each and every response to be positive.

No need to take it off, you are happy with the product, its appearance and the perceived benefits it'll provide. That's the important thing.

Just because a few of us don't like it doesn't make us right, it's simply our view. A view prompted by your post.

There will be others who are interested in doing the same, maybe if you get time you could take some pictures and share them on here?

They are just a fashion accessory IMO.

Even if they don't cause damage (despite many claims that they do) unless you are goint to protect the whole front of the car from stone chips then what is the point?

Nice stone chip free bonnet with a pebble dashed bumper??

These always divide opinion-but if you like it it is your car and your choice. I'm sorry you have run into flak so soon after joining what is a knowledgeable and usually entirely friendly forum.

My opinion exactly - and I thought the VW groups were "Bitchy". Anyway, perhaps I jumped the gun a bit yesterday when posting. Had a good look at the offending item in the daylight today, and I reluctantly have to agree that I don't really like it, even though I tried to convince myself yesterday that I did - spoils the whole look of the car. Not the first time I have purchased an accessory for a car and dumped it soon after. Sod the stone chips - still like the look of that carbon bonnet wrap though - what do others think (polite answers please).

Ah well, at least you've lived up to your username!

Is that your Yeti in your profile pic!?

If so MORE PICS NEEDED, it looks pretty good!

Come on Truthseeker. Chill!

I agree with Sliver1011. I think you must have been having a bad day.

If you make any comment on a Forum then expect to get a full range of comments in return, it's normal and often very helpful. In this case you appear to have taken offence too quickly. Take a deep breath and enjoy the range of replies you got, it's better than being ignored. :hi:

Thanks Fred - bit hasty/impatient I'm afraid. Anyway, bonnet bra going onto e-bay.

I know many of the Golf GTi clan use these - especially those into Concours competitions; they also seem popular with VW camper van owners (especially the air cooled lot), who seem to own the slow lane on motorways at weekends :)

I just think they spoil the look of any vehicle and as someone suggested above there are transparent protection kits, like the Ventureshield suggested above. I've never looked closed at a car so protected, but I'm told they can be almost invisible? Not cheap though - and possibly more costly than periodic repainting of the affected areas?

There's a large painted frontal area on the Yeti (and most other current cars) and nearly all front bumpers are now painted too - I reckon those areas are more likely to get peppered by stones?

Leaving a sensible distance between you and the vehicle in front is probably the most effective way of avoiding stone chips but sadly this doesn't help when stones are flicked up by passing vehicles coming the other way!

I'll look forward to seeing the results of carbon wrapping on your car - it would certainly suit a white Yeti

Sorry if I did upset you ,I was only giving my opinion. No one has the same opinion on everything . People have not liked my modifications but I do not take to heart. Glad you have seen the light

Apology gracefully accepted. I used to customise and show cars all over Europe (in the late 80's) so I do know a little bit about "modifications". Very, very tempted to "Pimp" the Yeti, but at aged 60 might not go down to well with Mrs Truth-seaker. Might just do that bonnet wrap though (been quoted £150).

This site can get a bit "lively" at times, make sure you post a picture and update when you get the venture shield fitted. :sun:
