2006 Octavia vRS HU upgrade questions + Bluetooth

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've kept an eye on this forum for a long time but never posted until now. I'm in New Zealand and there is very little information available locally about Skoda's in general.

Earlier this year I bought my wife a 2006 Octavia vRS Combi (petrol) to replace her Fabia vRS WRC.

We are planning on keeping this car for a while and I want to install OEM Bluetooth with A2DP streaming. I've done some retrofitting before on my BMW - Bluetooth, Nav, etc so I'm comfortable in removing and installing parts, etc

The Octavia is standard spec for NZ which includes the Audience (non mp3 and non aux-in) HU with 12 speaker "Sound System" including amp under the passenger's seat. It does not have the MFSW but does have the full screen display in the instrument cluster - I don't think that was standard equipment in the UK.

From my research I understand I have to upgrade the Head Unit as the only Bluetooth module that will operate via the windscreen wiper stalk controls does not do streaming - part number is 1Z0 035 729B. This also appears to be more expensive than the newer modules.

Being in NZ we don't want Navigation as its pretty easy to find your way down here!! Looking at options I have chosen the Bolero as the Head Unit of choice as it is cheaper than the Columbus and we wouldnt use the Navigation features anyway. I want to fit the Bolero first and then the Bluetooth later to give me an opportunity to work out any issues and to also spread the cost over a longer period.

Until last night I though this would be straight forward as per below:

Buy Bolero from eBay or similar

99% sure I'll also need to update the CAN Gateway

Possibly need an aerial adapter to go from the single antenna of the car to the dual of the Bolero

Fit and code those parts via VCDS - some additional coding may be necessary to reduce the output of the Bolero due to the external amp of the "Sound System"

I though that once the above was complete everything would continue to operate as normal - parking sensor display would still work and Climatronic information would continue to show on the HU and HU information would continue to be displayed on my full screen (white) display in the instrument cluster.

After reading these topics I now have doubts:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/186300-2010-bolero-headunit-compatability/

Can the issues of the Climatronic and Parking Sensors information not being displayed in the Bolero be resolved with some recoding? Similarly, will the Bolero share it's info with the instrument cluster?

I don't want to lose any features if possible!

Following on I've got some questions about the various other Bluetooth modules but I'll post those questions once I've collated further information.

Thanks in advance.

As an update for this I have now purchased a Bolero and it's on it's way from the UK. Freight takes forever to get to NZ so it will be August before it actually arrives.

www.carsystems.pl sell PDC+OPS sensors. I already plan on buying my Bluetooth kit from them. Has anyone on here purchased their PDC+OPS module (my car has front and rear PDC so presumably I need the 8 sensor unit)? I'm hoping I can use them as a one stop shop and combine freight which is a real killer for me. I have been in touch with them directly via email but they only respond with very short emails and refer me back to their website. I plan to buy the BT kit, CAN Gateway and PDC+OPS modules from them.

My questions are which particular CAN Gateway, Bluetooth Module and PDC+OPS module should I buy in terms of part numbers?

Many thanks!

Update.

The Bolero has arrived. However there is no code. The seller is trying to get the VIN for me. Has anyone had any luck getting the code without the VIN? There is a 4 digit code stamped to the unit however I suspect this is for some other purpose.

It also has a wire soldered to the phone mute pin which I'll have to remove. I guess the donor car had a non-OEM phone kit installed.

Any answers to the above posts would be greatly appreciated.

Today I managed to get the code from the local dealer and get the Bolero functioning. My trouble now is that I have no sound except for when I am scanning the Sound System module with VCDS. The sound only plans for the length of the scan - a few seconds.

Has anyone had this same problem and managed to overcome it?

Reading one of the above threads it sounds like the Audience worn work in cars with the 12speaker system, possible caused by the canbus. If you havent already that would be the next avenue to explore, get a newer canbus/fit/recode and see if it now works.

When I upgraded to my columbus I also changed my canbus (extra measure to prevent battery drain) and didn't get any sound from my Columbus, a bit of experimenting showed there were various setups speakers etc and I had simply picked the wrong one.

I fitted 5K0 035 730 B Bluetooth module and that streams sound nicely and integrates well allowing me to use my Columbus to access my phonebook on my phone :)

It's been a long time since I updated this! BT works well with the Audience head unit. The only issue is there is no button to answer a call. I'm still looking to find a way to make a Bolero work with the Sound System if anyone can help.
