Mg Zr 160

You might all be forgetting something ! MGs can be modified as well....

I stick to what I said though: A standard ZR/Vi will be very similar (slightly quicker) to a standard vRS.

By the same token, a modded 190bhp ZR/Vi will be very similar to a 220/230bhp Octavia vRS/4x4. Trust me.

it was lowered and also had a sports exhaust on it but as we never stopped can't say whether more was done to it

Bengie I pulled away from VX220 turbo, 200bhp and alot less weight than the 4x4. I have to agree the ZR should have been no competition at all. That was obviously on a straight road, twisities would have been very different.

I suspect it might have been a different outcome if the vx220 turbo driver had put his foot down too!

We don't know how well the other cars are being driven do we? fluffed gear changes, simply backing off when scared or being told to slow down from the passenger seat by angry partner.

Bengie may have had an "on the ball" MG driver giving him a hard time and you may have been flattered by a substandard vx driver. Is it possible?

Last one of those SV things I saw was on the M40....... with a recovery vehicle on the hard shoulder :(

me and MG had been 'playin' for the previous mile or so at slow speed upto the dual carriage way so both prepared. i must admit i expected no real challange but it was worth it to se the look of concentration/confusion on the blokes face.

i did peruse some forums on possible mods to these and it doesn't look there is much without removing the vvc and sticking TB on em

just had a little look and the vx220 turbo is 196bhp 184lbft and 0-60 in 4.7 with 151 topend, sorry eddy but he wasn't trying or a crap driver mate

It was a straight road and he was trying as I could tell by the look of disbelief on his face after looking in his mirror several times and finally pulling over, he had no passenger. I also don't think there's much skill involved in a straight line, you just need a heavy right foot.

One thing the 4x4 does have is it's short gearing...

It takes a lot of power to pull away...vx220's have been surprised / left on track by Octavia's ;)

There are quicker cars and slower cars, stands to reason, some won't be consistent with others views. I know of one Octy4x4 that's quicker than a scoobie over a certain strecth of test road...but that's down to the drivers skill, or lack of forsight towards growing old.

I have 230bhp, 250lbft, 0-60 in ? (but I have a v-tech meter so I'll check), topend is 150+. This particular tustle started at 80+ and I left the car in 5th.

BTW I concour with Colin that the short gearing of the 4x4 is a big help.

Did a track day on Friday & one of the latest VX220 Turbos was there driven by a dedicated Vx220 Track driver, Sorry but a 250 bhp Octy was a tadge quicker.

The most Impressive car was a Nizmo 350Z I tried for couple of sessions, the balance was fantastic & it was a real pleasure to drive. Performance wise it was an equal to the Octy, It only lost out on fuel consumption managing 7.7 mpg wheras the Octy did 8.3

true you have more power and torque eddy but the vx220 also has around 500-600 kilo's less. roughly speaking that gives you a bhp/tonne of 161bhp/tonne and the vx gets 210bhp/tonne, quite a difference. i would just be surprised if it was quicker is all, they are quite quick.
