Talk to me about the 1.2 and 1.4 Petrol Fabia's. Wifey wants new wheels. EDIT: Bought one

Featured Replies

Nice, they all do the badge thing. Only dodgy part of a Fabia. Sport is a nice looking car,and the 1.2 is a fun engine.

No pics yet, I just went to autotrader to see if it was still up but they took it down already and it's also off of the dealers site.

I'll get some on Thursday if the sun dares to show it's face. I just hope she drives this one like a car and not a tank like the Fiesta!

Well done, she'll love it to bits

Well some annoying news.

I got a call from the wife today who was out in the car (district nurse) who was in hysterics becasue she was stuck on a roundabout in her Fiesta with no gears. Long story short, Ford were intelligent enough to design a master clutch cylinder with a plastic push rod which has snapped off. As a result there is now no connection between the clutch and the pedal.

It's now in a garage who reckon it'll be done for her to still get the Fabia tomorrow and a new clutch cylinder is probably going to be about 40 quid plus the parts to fit so at a guess we are looking at a £150 repair bill 24 hours before the car would have been someone elses probem!

Never mind.

Now that is annoying :(

like the plastic ratchet on the clutch of the older ford escorts back in the late 90's, will ford never learn not to cut costs

Spoke to the garage, part was £35 and he reckons about £100 to fit, possibly less. That is inline with what I got told by the Fraud garage a few minutes prior (I like to check).

Hopefully full steam ahead for tonight!

That is very annoying!

Still it will be worth it once you get the new car.

I'm sure she will enjoy it!

Those 1.2's are lovely little engines and actually sound really nice (raspy/rumbly noise).

A friend got one new a couple of years back and I was very impressed at how well it pulled with 4 adults in.

She's just picked the Fiesta up and is now on the way to Bromley.

The garage charged £135 part/labour to fix the master clutch cylinder, and they also pulled the large dent out of the boot lid that got put there when the random guy at the roundabout helped push her out of the way. Also didn't charge to come and collect it either which I thought was good, even if they did just drive it away rather than needing a truck.

Fraud wanted £165 just for parts/labour for the cylinder.

Hopefully she'll be home in an hour or so with new wheels!

Well? Are new wheels there?

They are indeed. She is very happy with it, all the family like it too as she has already done the rounds showing it to them.

Will try and get some pics tonight when she gets home. Already she's said that there is more room inside than in the fiesta and she also doesn't have to drive with her chin over the steering wheel any more as she can reach the peddles better in this.

Opened the bonnet for the first time last night and was like "where is the engine?" as it's so tiny. Hopefully she has plenty of trouble free use out of it before she gets a Yeti in 4-5!

Now I have to read through the book and see what's what and then find out what I can get done with the VCDS.

Glad you all liked and especially Mrs your new car. What a joyfull feeling. Believe me that little engine is great combined with a short (at my opinion) gearbox that makes her nippy and bulletproof.

Mine was MK1 64hp and we went wherever we wanted. From long journeys at highway at 120kph to mountain roads using 1st and 2nd gear and always with a/c on and full of stuff due to children.

I'll wait for the photos then

Beautiful car with one of my favourite alloys.

Nice one :) Sounds like she loves it too!

She does indeed.

I took it out for a quick drive last night as I hadn't even been in it yet! Quite pokey and has a throaty sound to it so you could easily drive it mroe aggressively and feel at home.

Showed her how to open the fuel cap too since it needs a key, I didn't want a phone call when she was on a forecourt!

I had a look in the service book and it's only got one stamp which was after 1 year and I think 1100 miles. Since I don't know if it's been done since I'll probably do at least an oil/filter change soon just to be on the safe side. I did already check the oil level and it was fine.

If it ever stops raining I might get a chance to clean my car and hers! I have some Collinite 476 which looked incredible on my Black Focus so it should do a number on the Fabia too.

What a little stunner!! Love the alloys. Yes the engine looks tiny as they don't have a bulky plastic cover to bulk them up! Mine never needs oil between services, I don't do mega miles but these little 3 pots don't seem to burn oil to any great extent. If you have my experience you'll like it even more when you've lived with it a while, they are fun to drive, cheap to own and nice to be in. Ticks all the boxes  Colly476 is a great wax as you will know if you used it. I have also got their 915 and 845 but prefer the 476 it just lasts and lasts.

It is indeed the same, just a dodgy angle for the comparison I suppose.

Hmm, you don't seem to have the front and rear bodykit (bottom of the bumper on the front) though I suppose it could have been removed. Maybe the previous owner had it taken off at the dealer?

No idea.I know that it's got about 1,200 miles on the clock for every year it's been on the road so it's possible that whoever had it didn;t want them or something. The only reason I think it's the sport is that it was advertised as such and all the MOTs and docs list it as the Sport and when you do an insurance quote it brings it up as a sport on the reg number. Are there any particular bits aside from body kit that set it aside?

I'm not too fussed, the wife loves it and it's a nice car. Would be nice to know for sure for the future though.

A few more pics of the outside.

Can you do a picture of the front seats. The Sport has seats with built up sides (sports style). Thanks..

This isn;t from her car, but these are the same as the seats in hers. Same rest of the interior too.

Looks like the Sports trim to me. By the way, the 1.2 htp engine is a little belter. Have one myself. I had a 1.9 diesel in my previous car and thought that the step down to the 1.2 htp would be too much but not so. OK the 1.2 doesn't have the same grunt as the 1.9 diesel but it does the job nicely thank you very much. Enjoy the car.
