Help, safety pack or not

Featured Replies

Have ordered my 75 elegance greentech without safety pack, but did go for black stripe decals, then removed black stripe from order, should i add safety pack instead of it?

Or should i just leave it

What i have read today is that the braking system will give you discount on insurance, is it worth it?

What do you guys think?

I've seen that city safe includes ESP and passenger airbag off (if you need to transport a baby, worth considering?) If it was me buying it, I'd ask do I want ESP (yes), whatever other benefits city safe gives (yes), a potential saving on insurance (hell, yes) or do I want some stickers (er, no, not really)

ESP is standard on Elegance so the City Safe pack is only £180. Seems worth it to me....hence my raising it in my other thread......although the only reply to date, by sk4gw, has gone over my head - but read it and see if it helps you make your mind up.

Will it go fast enough to warrant the city safe thing

Yeah, its only because i saw the 'stickers' on the 1 in autoexpress the other week and thought it looked ok, but parents persuading me otherwise and im fine with that, although with the city-safe im really not sure, would i use it? maybe but only for 'fun' but if it does indeed get a fair discount on insurance then yes it is something i will add

Are you getting 1/got 1?

Hi, no I haven't got one, nor intend to get one, happy with my Fabia! After you get it, you can always detail it yourself, can't you?

Just to add a little pointer with regards to City Safe, the car needs to be travelling between 3 - 18 mph for it to take affect, so if you are rolling down a slight hill or creeping in traffic without paying attention (we all do it) the CS will come in at the last second.

The decals can always be added on at a later date.

Stickers over safety and a cheaper insurance premium - City safe wins hands down.

Sorry if my not to serious posts went over anyones head.

My 'simple' thinking is/was,

if you think you are going to be so dozy as to run into someone and think you need your car to do your Braking or Emergency stopping then it is a great thing to have.

'Whats the worst that can happen?'

BUT,

If the person behind you does not have 'Autobraking' & runs up your jacksy then that will just be par for the course,

normal city type driving and i look forward to seeing if driving standards improve or not or if 'Insurance claims' do reduce..

Also interested in future faults in the Braking System, if it is like some other innovations, like my Transit Van with Durashift Gearbox that could not cope with a Blown Stop Light bulb,

Or Freelander & Discovery TC or Hill Decent that gets the 3 Amigo lights with a bit of moisture or brake pad wear.(£££'s)

So my thinking was,

Reduced frontal damage to the car with 'Autobraking', is no guarantee of anything other than you not running into someone at slow speeds.

I will no doubt sometimes in the Future have Autobraking, but it will have to perform better than it did in the Fiat 500 i test drove a while back and its brain seemed a bit fuddled with Stop/Start and Autobraking and a Test semi auto Gearbox.

VAG will have got this right first time surely,

because they do always get things right, dont they???

Just ordered a Citigo today, with the Safety Pack. Let's face it, it only costs an extra £180 for this quirky and unusual feature. What's the point ordering a Citigo without it ?

Ah...my kind of logic. Top Man!

Yeah agree with what is bein said

Am i being dumb and as i havent tried it but, what happens once its braked for you - i mean usually you clutch and brake, does the car do that or what or am i being thick?

It was a tad over a month ago when I test drove the Citigo and my mind is like a sieve, but from what I recall, the braking system will break (sharply) and stall the car - don't take this as set in stone though.

One point to note is that if there is any form of driver intervention (moving of steering wheel or foot on brake but still rolling) the braking system will NOT be activated.

Stop/Start systems Inhibit/disable theirself and do not function in low temperatures, this is a good thing when it works as designed to. IMO

? Do Autobrake systems 'Disable automatically' in Low temperatures so that they will not apply any braking??

say below 6 degrees celcius (Maybe at 4 degrees if that is when a * Frost sign shows on the dash)

when UK winter time roads would normally be getting salted or treated for even lower temperatures expected.

big question is for £180 of investment what discount do you get off your insurance ?

if over £150 ish no brainer, if only £10 then not so clear cut

but as my roomster was written off for a 10-15mph shunt (distracted by something to right of car and renault in front stopped sudenly) then this would prob have saved my car,

over £3500 damage (according to insurance co. ) wrote off a 2007 1.9tdi roomster with 168k miles on it, i could only see bonnet, bumper, wing (not inner wing) slam panel and radiators,

so how little damage at todays repair rates would it need to write off a citigo? so £180 to reduce that risk is worth it in my eye regardless

as to ESP, must have in my eye after experiencing it work on snowy roads last year

From what I've read so far the City Safe Drive system can be of benefit. However there are quite a number of limiting factors to when it will operate and in certain circumstances it can react when you don't want it to.

Well worth reading the handbook page 68 to 70 (particularly page 70) to assess if it's for you before ticking the option box;

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/239158-citigo-owners-handbook/

Also see the NCAP site;

http://www.euroncap....ency_brake.aspx

TP

From reading the manual it would appear that the system only works in slow moving traffic, within a very narrow set of circumstances.

The exceptions to it working far outweigh the si****ions (circumstances) when it will.

Personally, I believe it is so limited that it isn't worth the extra cash.

In my view it would need to be much more flexible with regards to si****ions (circumstances) when it WILL work to make it worth fitting.

Why the censorship of "tuat" ???

I've been quoted £230 / yr for insurance. If I get a £150 discount I'll be very happy !. No,it's highly unlikely there'll be any form of discount until this is made a standard factory fit.

Private Frazer here (we're doomed),

The Owners Manual was very helpful and interesting.

Good to see that it can be 'Switched off', pity it can not be kept switched off longer than everytime the ignition is switched on again.

(if i read that right)

We all know how many Automatic Car drivers writing off umpteen vehicles in a supermarket car park, claim the throttle stuck.

Re the 'City Braking' and the Owners handbook, and narrow roads and corners and cars being near and the vehicle applying the brakes etc

*paraphrasing there by me*.

I can see many times that 'user input will be required to switch off the system,

but

i wonder how many Blue Rinsers with the top models will never read the Owners Handbook as they exit their country estate roads on a frosty snowy morning with overhanging trees in the drive.

Going to be interesting if this is a Safety Device for the masses and an 'Excuse for the stupid' that the car braked and slid off the road and i was only doing 15 mph.

lets see,

because time will tell if Insurance companies support or not the use of this, or demand the System is totally disabled a few years down the line.

well i got a quote (im 19) for an up! and my quote was around £90 a month about £1000 if i got £150 discount or something close then i will go for it, but if it is only £10 then no its not worth it, something i will discuss with the insurence company

Preston_Motors thanks for that, imagined it would, really dont know to go for it or not, the insurance 'discount' will determine if i do go for it or not
