Has anyone else noticed the oblong hole cut in each door sill,

And the corresponding bracket, fixed to the bottom of each door, that locates in said hole when the door shuts?

The bracket appears to have a 12mm hole drilled in it too.

Now I am speculating that when the door is shut and the engine started, a bolt is fed through the hole in the bracket by a solenoid of some sort located behind the oblong slot in the sill.

If so, I am guessing it would have something to do with cabin integrity in the event of a crash.

And or rigidity in driving, as the doors are so large in comparison to the overall size if the whole car.

Which brings a another idea to mind...

If in the event of an accident the pins/holes in the sill are to allow the door and sill to move together so the door can be opened easily, also tries to prevent the door from folding into the sill/door frame

think all skoda's have similar setups

So I was on the right track then.

Good old engineering brain still sharp enough, obviously

Just had a repair on my 56 Plate Octavia Estate which also has/had this bracket and hole in the door sill. Someone drove straight into the side of us at a roundabout.

 

The door has since been replaced, but the new door does not have this bracket on anymore? Just a recess where the bracket should be welded? How important is this bracket regarding safety / security on the vehicle? Any advice would be grateful as might need the repair centre to look into it and sort me out a bracket if important.

Nor sure what I am looking for, i.e. where, but mine does not appear to have any holes or brackets?
