Revo stage 1 - 20% off at the min!

Featured Replies

Hi guys and I know some of you might of been following my thread about having my car remapped yesterday.

I just thought I would write up a small review and my views on it all now it's done and dusted, which may help some of you decide to go for it whilst revo are having a sale (or about to have) 20% off I read.

Ok initial pick up, looked over the ecu and such with the tuner to make sure I was happy with the way it had been re assembled. The guys had done a brilliant job and responded to all my questions with very professional answers. I suggest you do a search for "considering remap" thread and getting the questions vrsy had posted to ask your chosen tuner, this is so your not going into the unknown completely blind.

The drive home - Initially was like hmmm not so sure should of done this kinda back tracking and a little nervous of what I had done to my pride and joy. Took it down a nice open costal road (one warmed up) where in our area is good to go to test a car (plenty of bends and some decent straights) so knocked it into 3rd to see how she went. My response must of been a picture!! I laughed and laughed pushing the foot down, torque coming right in with the supercharger then when the turbo came in the car went nuts! I had this similar response with my mk1 vrs when it was mapped, whole new car!!

Next day - Woke up Kinda feeling a little bad cause I had only been interested in the speed up until now and again feeling like shouldnt of done this etc it's going to wreck my poor car! Took it out tonight for a more sensible approach and a wonder if the economy has improved? So went out in it for a good hour or so, not driving fast/slow but keeping within the limits but being gentle with it. Was surprised, getting about 45-50mpg driving nicely and the map behaved real smooth and gradual when driven normally. Had a few overtakes on the dual carriageway and D mode made it a joy to drive.

I think now I have had both sides, the mental and the sensible sides I do love the map. Now I know some people out there are worried about warrenty but I intend to take it in for any warrenty work (touch wood don't need anyway) with the map turned off a few days prior via the sps box. My tuner also assured me that any real problems occur and they will flash my Skoda map back on if I am that worried and can have it re flashed upon completion aslong as I provide my invoice. The third option is to have Skoda assist recover my car to a dealership that is also a revo software provider as they will do warrenty on revo cars.

So all in all this should help people on the border of wanting to but unsure, it makes a real nice sensible drive it when required can really come alive!

glad you are happy. I've driven a revo's fabia mark Ii and they do go nicely ;)

please let us know what happens should you have any warrenty claims. thanks.

I would love to have mine done. I had my previous octavia done and it was awesome. I had skoda assist call out the other week when i had a flat battery. The first thing the guy did was scan the car and asked if i had the car mapped as this shows up on the coding which is sent directly to skoda via his laptop. He did say he didn't give a toss if i had or not but if i needed any updates then this would rewrite the map. I was also told on my old car that the map they (Revo) rewrite isn't a skoda map but a re written revo map similar to the original. This is basically what the sps switchable unit does so i was told. Not sure if this is duff info or not

Yea this is correct Arnold, the revo map is a map that emulates the vw/Skoda map parameters. When speaking to Rainworth Skoda they said the map on their system stands undetected (the stage 1 map) Most places want the warrenty work as Skoda is effectively paying for the labour and parts etc so good income from their point of view. I have 3 backup plans if anything went wrong 1.sps to normal 2.revo to reflash stock 3.recover to Rainworth Skoda :-)

My mate had a polo gti mapped by Rtech. He hit a problem with the turbo at 25k and had revo stock map it for a small price. Vw replaced the turbo with no issues.

Just to clarify, does this mean that the Revo remap when switched via sps to the emulated VAG map is not detected by their computer systems?

Also are Rainworth happy to maintain the warranty on a remaped car? (presumably with the remap and warranty work carried out by them). I know it would be easy to speak to them direct and keep meaning to.

I am always trying to convince myself that a remap is a worthwhile investment but generally come back to the thought that the stock car is more than capable of killing my licence but then do feel it has more potential with some more torques and bhp! This combined with the various issues people have had with the engine and potentially losing the warranty as well as increased insurance costs and the wife being wary of driving the car with stock power generally make me wary of it.

Hi on the New Fabia VRS the cost is £449.99 inc vat. We would require the car for a full morning or afternoon, as we have to remove the ECU from it, to remove the security lock from it and to map it. We do use new security bolts when replacing it to make it look like new again, unlike some companies out there who do not even

re-secure them, we also do not use any form of solder when flashing them.

It will take the BHP up to about 215bhp and the torque up to 209lbft.

We have no issues doing remaps on new cars or doing warranty work on remapped cars. Revo got all the codes from one of our brand new Fabia VRS cars, even before we had done a PDI on it. We do remap 2 -3 cars a month on PDI with no issues and have done for the last 5 - 6 years.

However any sort of remap can void some warranty work, for example if you had a stereo fault that would still be covered for the 3 years, if you had an engine fault that may not be by some dealers, as I said we have no issues.

Skoda / VW group are starting to clamp down on it but at present the Revo Maps do not show up on the detection system they have added, with Revo you can purchase a switch to turn it on and off so if you did take it into another dealership you can easily turn it off just to put your mind at rest.

Just to clarify the SPS box when turned to stock is not stock lol. It is a stock version on the revo map, like a detuned version of there map to make the car feel like it has the original power. If the dealer looked for it would find this as it differs from the original map.

Like you said (WIlko) if there was every a problem get it flashed back to standard or take it rainworth, the only benifit of the SPS is to change the fuel quality 95/98/102 or whatever they are. I think on older unprotected ECU's the SPS box did put the map back to the original.

Yes just emulates the stock map so to speak.

"Hi the SPS will turn it back to a stock mode. At the moment Skoda are changing their diagnostic systems which we did not know in March, we are 99% sure the Revo is still undetectable as none of the ecu id's or checksum quantities change on the Revo software as they do with many other companies, Revo have tested with other dealers their own cars and none have shown up, when its switched off so do not think it will be an issue"

Im turning mine to stock tonight as the oil consumption needs to be looked at on my car. So will be a test in a way, if it's checked over and nothing's found its happy days!

Would be curious to learn how you get on Wilko, let us know.

With regards to whether the map could be detected by skoda i was told recently it was by a Skoda assist roadside recovery chap. He states that when scanned the car comes back with a few numbers different than a standard car indicating the map. He has dealt with a few which have been mapped but has still continued with the work. This is the only thing putting me off the map just yet should skoda get a bit ****ty about it. I'm sure if someone had the definitive answer from skoda on this then Revo may sell a few more units .

That was the map I initially wanted but I dont have cruise :-/ Revos software is covered by a 30 day no hassle money back guarantee. If I get any more nervous might have to use that policy cause I'm starting to get cold feet

What about the oil consumption then? Did they have a look and was the remap claimed (from dealer's side) to be the cause of it?

Haven't had it in yet newbie, no sure how serious it is used 1250ml in 3k miles

You're kidding? Thats ~ 260ml/1000km, almost half of what is considered "expected" from these engines and even stated in the owner's manual. Lol, some vRS owners would love to have such a low oil consumption that's for sure, but seriously this is nowhere near "excessive" or even "worrying" so I don't think you have to bother at least as long as it stays around these figures.

Very strange "dead/flat/weak" spot experienced under load whilst M shifting. From 4th to 5th and just occasionally 3rd to 4th Anyone else had this this? if it continues the map will be removed under the guarentee, not liking that. No warning lights etc to indicate a misfire. Running v-power currently

Not sure of its something slipping, no traction lights come on either :-S

Ok this is strange mainly 5-6 just took it out again to see if I could figure it out, from 5th pulling ok knock it into 6th seams to drop off ~4000 revs then picks up as normal. Going to swap to stock emulation map and see of it does it still.

Just a silly idea, but

Why not go out and drive that piece of road at exactly the same speed or near to it,

First in 'D' & what the gear you are in, even kick down, or easy off the throttle,

then

go back and do the same piece of road in 'S' and see what gear you are in, try a kick down etc.

Then go do it doing your manual changes,

be sure its not your gear choice that is wrong and you are changing up to soon.

If you get a re-map then you did it for the car to drive differently so give yourself and the Box the chance to get used to the different behaviour.

if it drove exactly the same as before a re-map what would the point be?

Changed to stock map and took the car out just now, it's not got the flat spot just seemed.....normal. So when I get home from being called out to work :-( I will put it back to mapped mode and try your suggestion George. Basically Iif this continues I'll not hesitate for a min to take it back and get it removed.

Unless its just me, maybe when it gets into 6th it doesn't boost as much making me feel like the powers dropping off. Either that or I'm changing hear too early this meaning the turbo needs to spool up again.

Until a remapped user games along and shares their experience I am confused.com

You are talking about gears & revs but not speeds.

(best not to here)

I can be booting it hard in 'D' and its in 6th,

& if i was to knock that back to 'S' its not down to '5' it might be 4th & back up to '5' or '6'.

but maybe not untill the throttle is backed off.

If you are staying on the throttle and getting a move on,

it may not be shifting up a gear if you were in D or S untill you lift off.

but you seem to say you are choosing to shifting up.

(not worth talking about speeds, because we might be doing very different things!!)

I tend not to use S other than to decelerate or on hilly roads,

I do not use S for overtakes as my car gets that overtake in more than quick enough, i knock back to S once passed to slow things down.

I drive in almost always in D when getting a move on & go across to Manual to knock down a gear but go back across to D to let it upshift.

The speed and acceleration or a bit of a climb are all going to be important on the behaviour of the box and the turbo..

Why not stick with 'D' & 'S' for a few more days and get out and play and see how it behaves & if you can improve with your manual up changes over being in auto, then thats great.

What was lacking in your cars performance or its driveability that made you think 'i need this re-maped or upgraded'?

Was it not fast enough on twisty roads, or is it straight line acceleration you were after?

I was just curious George (no link intended to animated monkey film title)

I had my last one done and was great I never looked back. I spent ages and ages on here reading all the threads re how fast they go mapped or tuned with a tmc box etc and it became almost an obssession. Now it's done I just kinda think, great I've experienced it now, like I would of done if a trial was available and kinda possibly regretting it a little (possibility of skoda not upholding anything on warrenty etc) I'm someone who spends too much time worrying about little insignificant things as there is (touch wood) nothing wrong with the car ATM. Just think maybe I rushed into this cause I got offered it on a good deal. I spoke to the guy who done it the other day regarding the money back guarantee and their not fussed will flash it back to standard and refund my card, which i might have to do if I can't shake this feeling of anxiety.
