Relay Numbers

Featured Replies

Help. I know this shouldn't be a difficult question, but it seems to all over these forums and the web...

But can someone please tell me what the numbrs are for the relays under the Fabia dash?????

I need to find the Glow plug relay and replace it, but there's several.

The glow plug relay is normally numbered 103, but many of the relays are interchangeable, so go by position. The glow plug relay is in position 3.

Thanks for that info guys, spot on 103 in position.

However on checking it, it appears to work fine. Whereas Position 4 Relay 469 doesn't appear to work.

Big problem is after a three day period, when the car is un-used, the battery is flat, not even enough juice to unlock and power dash, let alone start.

Had new battery, been through every fuse, then today; no glow plug light and wouldn't start, however turns over really strong. Next "port of call" was relays, so started looking for glow plug relay, hence inital topic!!

If you don't see the glowlight at all, then you may have a problem with the ECU power relay (Position 15, 109). The fuel pump relay feed comes from the ECU power relay, so it won't work if the ECU power relay is faulty.

You're right, but in Position 15 I have a Relay 469 not 109, and that's goosed, that make a difference??

If that relay is faulty, would that explain the drain on my battery over the three days??

Where can I get a spare on a Sunday?!?!?

Got the exact same problem with my bloody van at the moment.

50 odd turns of the key before the glow plug light illuminates then it

starts fine. Already replaced battery and just fitted a brand new starter motor

as that had seized up and wouldn't turn at all. Then spent another £60 on a

specific glow plug relay from renault and fitted it to find no difference.

Lurking around on renault forums I have learned of another glow plug

relay in the little black box but it's one of 3 identical looking ones and I

can't find out exactly which it is and am reluctant to change them all.

French crap, :wall:

Really wish my van had my SDIs engine. :(

If the relay is in position 15 (ignore the number) is faulty then it can cause failure to start and it can cause battery drain. It would be a little unusual as it would be sticking open and closed.

If you only pulled fuses from the main fuseholder when looking for the current drain, you wouldn't find anything as the relay contacts are fed from a fuse on the battery. Try pulling relay 15. Does it stop the battery drain?

Great. Well that relay is in my hand, so I'll let you know on the battery drain issue. But since it failed; I'm guessing a couple of days ago, the battery drain hasn't been an issue.

Been through all the relays and all appear to be functioning fine. But still no glowplug light and car still won't start. Can't here fuel pump kicking in either.

Any ideas??

Or does anyone know a decent Auto Electrician in the Biddulph, Congleton, North Stoke area??

How did you get to the relays?

Removed lower drivrs side facia.

Pretty easy job, remove small trim panel above steering column, remove fuse panel cover and remove small glove box thingy!! Unscrew all visible torx head screws and faci panel comes away. Make sure to disconnect light switch and remove diagnostic port. Then there's a largish black electrical box which unclips and the 15 place relay panel is accessible.

That help??

Does the relay in position 15 operate when you try and start the car?

Difficult to tell wheit's on the car, but definitley does when I try in on the bench.

But I have noticed that I can't hear the fuel lines pressurise like I used to. It's as if the car is immobilsed.

Both relays are controlled by the ECU. If the ECU power relay doesn't operate, then neither will the fuel pump relay as its feed comes from the ECU power relay. Take the case off the relay in position 15 so you can see what its doing. Try moving the relay armature by hand while trying to start.

It's not an immo problem as the car would run for three seconds and then stop.

Have you checked the fuses on top of the battery?

All fuses appear to be good, i.e. not blown.

I'll give that relay thing a try and see.

Think I'm gonna call in an Auto Electrician and get this sorted.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.

Tried that and nothing. Relay doesn't move at all and even if I manually make the contact no change with the car.

ECU FUBAR'd??

All you know is that the ECU isn't switching them on, but it's too early to condemn the ECU just yet.

It could be something simple like the ignition switch. Do all the electrical items work. Do the wipers work when you turn the ignition on?

Did you check the fuses in the main fusebox with a meter?

Sorry to dig up an old post but on my 2004 fabia vrs relay number 11 works my rear wiper and interior fan. Is that right?
