Pulstar Plugs ?

Featured Replies

Just came across these spark plugs (pulse), supposedly store and emit a plasma type energy discharge thing ...

sorry I'm not very technical .. but are supposed to have better fuel burning capabilities resulting in better power + FE

Anyone using them on the 1.8 tsi ?

notice any differences ?

O K maybe it s not got a plasma thing ...

But it s got a capacitor and all that ...READ _

Sounds like a big load of steaming ******** to me.

A cap isn't going to help you when you've got the battery and coil pack system cranking up the HV.

That just looks like it's got a material of a high capacitance in the lower segment of the plug anyway. I can't see what that would possibly do. If it was so good, everyone would be doing it.

Here’s how it works: Electrical energy from the engine’s ignition coil is stored in the built-in capacitor. At the exact moment needed, that energy is released in an amazingly powerful and quick (two nanosecond) high-energy pulse.

Erm, that's the electic that isn't there until the coil pack decides to shoot it down the HT lead right?

The coil pack that is controlled via the ECU when to fire the spark, for best ignition.

When I first saw these a while ago, there was much trumpeting about them and how they made so much difference. The reference car was an old Mustang (IIRC). "With a whole new ignition system, retune and these plasma plugs installed in the car ran so much better." However, I suspect that any car from the 60's that gets a 00's quality ignition system will run much better anyway.

What I didn't see was any side-by-side modern car testing. I suspect this is because the modern ECUs won't recognise the *massive power* increase that those plugs offer.

Also, if they were *that* good, wouldn't they be the first thing Shark did to a car? ;)
