its 5 years old here but if it passes the taxi MOt test then it can be used as PH.

From July 2013 the new PH must be under 5 years .

So if i buy 54 plate car i can use it up till 2015 as the maximum age for taxi is 11 years here.

Check that all the doors lock/unlock with the remote/door switches.

Check the power windows.

Do an 'ABS stop' on the test drive.

Scan for fault codes

cheers

well all the generals are white and private hire's are any other color, united taxis is also owns Maxis taxis which used to be based in Bellshill, we also have a restriction on engine size a diesel can be no less that 1600cc. and petrols 1800cc, the diesels used to be 1900cc, but had to be lowered cause skoda brought out the 1.6 tdi, plus 90% of the fleet are skoda octavia's and superbs

Hey Guys ,

For some reason i am not able to create new topic.

Need your help

I have weird knocking noise from the engine took it to garage , scared to know that the engine needs replacing(£1500 use engine) according to the mechanic. Its leaking and apparently Head Wall Seats are gone.

I have no idea what they are.

Car does start and drive , mileage is 187K .

Does any one know a good mechanic near about leicester area.

Your input will be very helpful

Thanks

Holy thread revival!

You'd be better off posting in the regional section or searching out good local garages on Google or websites like the good garage scheme.

Never heard of "head wall seats". The head of the engine (top end) will contain valve seats and the engine block has cylinder walls. I would try and get a clear diagnosis before you decide whether to repair/replace it. Also try to find out what the likely cause is so you can try and prevent it in future if it's something you've done wrong. The engine might have to be taken apart to get a full diagnosis, which could be throwing good money after bad if the engine ends up getting scrapped.

Thansk vrsTom,

The only thing i changed in the last service i changed the engine oil from comma prolife to quantum longlife (both are 507.00 engine code is BKC)

I did have changed the original flywheel to Valeo SMF , could this be the reason ?

I am not able able to create new topics .

May be because of  posting after a long time.

Regards

Probably just needs a top end rebuild

New cam and buckets and it'll do another 187k

Id take it to a better garage one that has half a clue

Update

Lion Garages said Cam shaft is gone.

So changing Cam shaft doing Timing belt it will cost £700 all in.

But my mechanic said bottom is weak as well pistons are on there way to go so no point repairing just change the engine which is costing £1300 pounds inclusive .

dont know what to do.

Second hand engine is taking a bit of a gamble unless you can be sure of the mileage and service history.

I think you're probably better off in the long run buying a new car and selling this as spares/repairs on eBay or to a breakers yard.

Did they say what the likely cause of the failure was?

I think buying new car is the solution .

Cause of the failure is the life of the car and its common issue with VAG .

According to MARK the engineer i am lucky it lasted that long usually it happened round about 100k

:dull:

Camshaft failure is a known issue on the 150 TDI engine but not on the others as far as I'm aware. If it was a common issue across the range there wouldn't be so many taxis with 1.9 TDIs in.

id find a new garage mate .

Ok update time ,

Camshaft with timing belt changed all in £710 which i think is not a bad deal as compare to the used engine £900 plus timing belt.

Car is running fine engine sound is changed less noisy . i will try to add some pics of the removed parts
