Citigo is Autoexpress Car of the Year

Featured Replies

Won the city car category and the overall COTY title :)

Skoda won 5 awards last night

'Auto Express COTY 2012' It is June not even July yet!

I really must say what i think every year as i read this stuff, (New Fiat Pandas and all the rest,)

that this COTY and other titles on vehicles that have not been available for 6 months let alone a year is total cr4p.

If i vehicle has not had Private Owners or at least Available to the public to drive & reached the mileage to have a First service or Snagging faults

reveal theirselves, the tests and results are a waste of time.

JMO obviously.

Only Time tells how good a car is and what it performs like as a Year old or as a 4 year old.

First impressions & flavour of the Quarter is not always much use when some miles are done.

Diesel cars with PDF's and getting to 3 years now being a case in point,

"Car of 4 years ago" doesn't really have the same ring to it though does it? :p

Hear what you're saying, but surely that's what the Driver Power surveys are for?

Not really much use either as they only give results from Owners that do surveys!

'Auto Express' do rather choose their opinions on what will be a great car from a couple of years ago as they had their spy pictures released to them by manufacturers and then have to keep up the story once the cars are actually for sale.

Or is that Libel or Slander?

'I suppose only if it was not true!'

What award are they giving to the next generation Fords that they love showing Artists impressions on,

or is VAG their current most helpful manufacturers?

Don't forget the mk1 Fabia won several years running with car of the year... They are definitely doing something right! and we should be enthusiastic and proud for our brand!

what i would love to see is the 1.2 75ps tdi put in the citigo, being a 3 pot same as the current 1 ltr it should fit without to many issues

the economy of that would be awesome, then see VW respond

I had the same idea and I had a very good long look under the bonnet of a citigo when I test drove it. The engine is very small physically and I think weighs about 70kg I doubt that the 1.2tdi would fit. If you look at a citigo engine the airbox sits on the top of it in lieu of the engine cover and everything is very self contained. I think it's how they've managed to get so much space for occupants. Also I think (I may be wrong) originally the up! concept was rear engined -which may account for the shape of the engine.

If you get a chance look under the bonnet of a Toyota iQ, there is a very compact engine in there.

In the UK it is 1.0, 3 cylinder or 1.3, 4 cylinder,

I have not seen a European 1.4 diesel version in the flesh, but it fits in the same size of Compartment.

the 1.2 tdi 3 pot looks tiny in my fabia greenline engine bay, the citygo rally has a 1.2 petrol and they say that was the biggest engine they could fit, so the 1.2tdi should fit

No you're not wrong about the rear engine concept.

It's also the reason the Citigo/Up/Mii have such large boots for their size.

We collected our new Yeti yesterday, and in the 2 hours or so it took for us to complete the handover, the dealer took orders for 2 Citigos.

They must be selling like hot cakes.
