Anyone keep their Octy in the garage?

Featured Replies

Having sold the Beetle, I looked at getting the Octy in the garage this morning - I cant see how it can be possible to get it in a singlae garage and still be able to get in/out!!!

Is my garage just really small or am I expecting a bit too much from my fat car??

Is that wall to wall? i.e there's no "other" stuff in between the wall and your car? Used to keep the old ZX garaged, but that was about a one and a half sized one, so could get bikes/freezer in there, and still get the car in and be able to get out comfortably.

Lie all things depends on the size . garage i mean , some of the newer houses just dont have the space for a proper GARAGE anymore , so thay build them smaller , and call it a ( garage ) . Dont do what i did when the car was new , had not driven it in far enough so when i closed the garage door it took 3 big chunks out of the spoiler paintwork .

Think you must have a small garage - I can squeeze my XJ6 into the garage and still get out...as long as I park at an angle and make use of the carpet attached to the wall as the car doors are about 8 inches thick!

I keep my Octy in the garage....last two house were brand new and they are bigger than garage of say.....10-15 years ago.

My parents house was built in 1930s with a garage...no way would I get the Octy is there...just about fits my Mums Corolla.

No problem with my garage get the Octavia and Superb in and can still open a door of eitrher car wide :D

I keep my car in the garage. Can't help you with size (it's in a decent-sized double) but I was p1ssed off when, seven days out of warranty I went with a friend to Cumbria. I parked the car outside, temperature fell to -5 (IIRC) and I first noticed a problem with a coolant sensor which, had I parked outside before, would have been fixed under warranty  such is life.

Mines in a garage to, can easily get in/out without problems. What I do is fold the passenger mirror in and then get the passenger side as close to the wall as I dare, quiet easy once you know what brick to aim the centre of the car at. I have also put some sponge on the wall where the drivers door opens to avoid damage to paint, thus I just open the door till its in contact with the sponge.

Mine is kept in a 'garage en-bloc' built in the 1970s and space is tight!!!

I have 5cms either side of the wing mirrors as it goes through the door opening and 20cms between the back of the car and the wall.

I always reverse in and have bricks down as the parking sensors tend to be going a bit mad :D A bit of foam padding on the wall next to the drivers door is a good idea too!!!

Can get the Superb and VW Transporter van in mine, both at the same time :D side by side.

I can just about squeeze the car into my garage - there's about 1" clearance either side between the door frame and the mirrors. The garage itself is about a foot wider than the door, so if I park the car as far to the left as I dare (a bit scary since the time when I scraped the left side of my Xantia against the door frame) I can open the driver's door just enough to limbo in and out.

Well, I've cleared the garage out and yes, it fits inside - but then I have nowhere for the junk!

I think I'm going to build a shelving unit over the bonnet for my stuff.
