Shell Petrol 100RON?

Featured Replies

A 'mate' tells me that Shell are soon to be stopping the Optimax 98 RON and replacing it with a 100 RON unleaded fuel. Anyone else heard this? What would be the pros/cons for this fuel in an Octy vRS?

This rumour seems to be buzzing around the various UK car forums.

Shells top fuel in Italy is already 100 Ron

Pros: More power, good excuse to have JBS's Custom remap implimented

Cons: Probably be more expensive as it will be more for Shell expensive to refine than 95/98 ron.

I'll end up buying it tho no doubt :D

I thought Dodgymax was just 95 RON with an octane booster, rather than genuine 97 RON "super". Perhaps this "new" fuel will be 97, with the same booster. Either way, I tend to find BP Ultimate more consistent.

:agree:

I reckon its just an excuse to sell fuel at

You dont need an excuse for that, just go and do it anyway!!

Though I can imagine having your car remapped with V power and Millers Octane+ (101 ron total) which is what I'll be doing when its available

I have to agree with Goochie on this one!

As it is in Germany.

Do you see the not-so-coincidence, with Shell being Ferrari's fuel supplier? ;)

Anyway, here in NL we are robbed, as our V-Power isn't 100 but only 97, and it's sold as 95. To make matters worse they've ousted the 98 fuel. The result is that most performance drivers simply avoid Shell these days.

BP Ultimate has only just been introduced here. It's sold as 98 (and has replaced the ordinary 98) but I have two petrol-station chiefs tell me that it's in fact 100, similar to V-Power 97 being sold as 95. (95 and 98 are the only two recognized/specified octane numbers in NL.) That would mean that our BP Ultimate is the same stuff that's being sold in Germany, which is 100 too, competing with Shell's "proper" V-Power.

Would make more business sense too, selling a few drops of German Ultimate in our small market instead of creating a sub-level 97 brew for the cheapskate Dutch market...

I've tried Ultimate for some time now, and it does seem to make a tiny difference. I wouldn't know if their enviromental and engine-cleaning claims are true, though. But as long as the boss is paying... :D
