Murdered by a Civic Type-R

Featured Replies

...I was raped by my friend in his 35oZ though.... :o

I wasn't!

Doing about 50, coming onto a 70MPH A road, Saxo-boy tailgating me, with me behind (but not tailgating) a 350Z. When we come off the slip road onto the A road, both the 350Z and I floor it (you could see his exhaust billow). We both leave the Saxo in the dust, but the 350Z wasn't getting away! If we weren't overtaking other people, I think I could've had him... :D

Bro....:)

As lovely as that sounds, there is absolutely NO WAY in hell a Fabia (as great a car as it is) could EVER take a 350Z.

Maybe on a winding road it would be easy to keep up, but once you hit a straight, you will get f***** royally by a Z. Same way I would have with the G35 (same engine) if we weren't dodging other cars on the road.

Let's keep fantasizing though :D

theres something about the R32 that i prefer to all the other Skylines... i cant put my finger on it but there just is.

CTR's are quick cars, for a standard Furby or Octy you'd have to catch the driver off vtec to take him and hope you get away before things take off for him. i'm guessing that he'd got his nicely in the zone and just took it up to the redline to whoop you so easily.

Talking of supercharging.... http://www.tts-performance.com/civicsupercharged.php 364bhp civic anyone? the kit basically feeds the power in like a progressive NOS kit so at 8000rpm you have an extra 160bhp or so over the standard 200bhp...

My brother is actually thinking about that very conversion... madness !

Prefer the R33 Skyline to the R34........R34 just don't look right. Front is ok but the rear is just all messed up.

R33 has the right proportions.

I was surprised yesterday as a Toyota celica vvti couldn't get past my 150bhp auto - strange as I thought they were 190bhp. iirc the 'power band' is quite thin in them tho.

apparently quite alot like a vtec where the real action doesnt start till your right up the rev range...

Just saying it as I saw it - puff of exhaust from his rear, which usually tells me when someone's booting it...

Anyway, the important thing was, I showed the Saxo-boy why you shouldn't tailgate a Fab...

Theres a 140 bhp model as well... which does about 8.5 seconds 0-60... I think a 190 bhp model would have got past you.

the 190 has no torque though. the corolla t-sports are way to slow for 190bhp.

Some Celicas are 190bhp, but most are "only" 140 !

I took a CTR in my standard Octy vRS in a straight drag the other day, I think I may have caught him off guard as I surged ahead at first, but then he managed to keep up (just). So it's not much quicker, if at all, than the Octy vRS, but the Fabia ain't quite as quick.

There's no way a standard 180bhp Octy vRS will keep up with or beat a CTR - simple as that!

The Octy is 200kg heavier and has 20bhp less.

Thing to remember is that 1) You can rev the b*ll*x of those engines so even though you have to do get performance it DOES shift

2) When you catch someone in a car like that off-guard it takes a while to get ti up to those kinda revs.

The Furby isn't as quick in standard form - still it's a good laugh having a go :D

Hmm, they may have no torque as such... but if you hammer the crap out of them, they'll still shift! A Honda Civic Type R isn't particularly torquey either, and yet is a very quick car, and even has respectable ingear times too.

i hastled a ctr tonight, he just looked at with distain then booted it, gave him the finger on my way past. not in a good place tonight

LOL, so you raced him, he beat you, so you gave him the finger?

Ever heard of accepting defeat graciously?

er, try again. he looked down at me then booted it, i gave him the finger on my way past him.

tbh i don't care if he was at the wrong revs, had the wrong fuel or had it in the wrong gear, whatever excuse he tells his mates i still drive a big white estate with towbar and beat him

I've had a friendly banter with one, and I easily kept up with him, so either his had been fettled with or you are not a very good driver ;)

Well, it was a straight line. You can't really go wrong with putting your boot to the bulkhead. I'm not the worlds best driver, but I don't think that is what affected the outcome.

So, I've been having a think over the past few days and maybe I need a new car. What can I get for 10K? Criteria:

1) Practical (must have 4/5 doors, estate, saloon or hatch)

2) Eye gougingly fast (Not like my Octy which is merely "rapid")

3) Not too expensive to run (fuel not a huge issue, but parts/servicing and insurance mustn't be too expensive)

4) At least as many toys as the Octy.

5) As new as possible (no older than say, 5-6 years).

Does this car even exist?

Agreed,

Oh and the celica is a slow boat we test drove one when the GF was looking for a new car, (she ended up getting a CTR BTW,) it really was a slow old boat same as the MR2 with the same engine both fanatstic looking cars but seems toyota lost there imagination when it came to the engines

F1 cars aren't particularly torquey either. Quite nippy though ;)

Reading this thread is really making me think........ The Civic Type R is a quick little car, regardless of how it gets there, why cant people accept that?

I tried to race a Maseratti off the lights for a laugh and he wiped the floor with my Octy - did I spend a week debating the pro's and con's of his car? No.

I think Witchfinder has hit the nail on the head, the Octy is Rapid but not super fast, it is a rapid car for the money and size, if it was so fast i doubt people would spend so much time and money modding them. The CTR i drove was about the same as my mapped Octy but felt a lot differant, why worry about it, we should get thing into perspective as far as performance goes. :) Just my 2p worth

I'm don't see why people compare the vRS and CTR tbh. Before I bought the vRS, I test drove the Civic. It didn't seem as nippy as I had hoped (probably me not driving it right mind!), but what I noticed was how hard the ride was. I found it plain uncomfortable. My point is the Octy is a reletavely large cruiser, that's comfy, has the toys etc. The Civic is more abare knuckle ride. I wanted something a little more refined, whilst still being able to teach most on the road a lesson, so got the vRS :D
