Honest Car

Featured Replies

Was thinking just now about what car is honest, I don't mean it's mechanically "undodgy", I mean what car looks purposeful in an honest way.

I have always thought a W124 Mercedes is a very honest car, likewise the Saab 900se (Goose - pre Cavalier and Vecra) and the Volvo 240.

Unlike the recent Mercedes, the W124 (also the W201) is very square and has a lack of bling (lack of chrome trim) to make the look very underwhelming. The 900se also has an understate look.

I am also incline to say the Toyota Corolla is also an honest looking car, but those round headlight looks too outlandish and screams look at me. The last generation Octavia is also good, it looks very honest.

Do you know what I mean? Any other cars you think fit the category?

Hammerite cars?

Surprised you didn't include most Skodas.

LR Defender takes the function over style to an artform.

Caterham 7

Ford Cortina.

'Citroen Nemo' without colour coding, does just what it is supposed to, transports a family.

(Peugoet Bipper & Fiat Qubo tried to be cool and give options and bumpers that you can scratch the paint on.)

'Suzuki Jimny' does what it is supposed to and has not had the Metal Bodywork redesigned on it since 1998.

Sadly they changed the Plastics & interior and added more electrics.

Still does as it did when released first 14 years ago.

All good suggestions! By Range Rover, I hope you mean Mk1 and Mk2 (P38), not the MkIII (bling / r&b / rap mobile). Put it this way, if I am going for a job interview (normal office job), what car would I drive? I definitely won't turn up in a Ferrari or Lancia Ypsilon....

Honda Accord Type R, If you were looking for a car with a bit performance, sporty like interior on a budget I'd recommend one, had one for nearly five year and it never missed a beat, and the H22A7 engine sounds fantastic when you give it the beans, the 2.2engine was also pretty good on fuel
