Revo power dip/loss

Featured Replies

Fabia vRS Revo remap performed 7/4/05 and I was delighted with the result. Fabulous accelaration, especially in third gear.

Now the last few days there seems a noticable dip in performance. The car runs fine and no warning lights are on. In fact it feels like the car has returned to stock on its own

I have considered that I might just be getting used to the peformance but this cannot be the case as

it was my partner who first detected the problem and accused me of switching back the remap to stock using the Sp1 device (I didn't)

the third gear accelaration is noticably less and no longer brings a broad grin to my face

I cannot get wheel spin in third anymore which must be a tangible measure

Has anyone else experienced this? and what was the outcome

I will be taking it back to the dealer for diagnostics and I hope it can be sorted. If not where can I get the engine power and torgue output measured in Essex.

Can you get it VAG-COM checked to see if any error codes are present?

Clutch?

I know mine (Octy) is on it's way out...the car does not always feel as quick, occasionally I think I've had slippage, but not the classic revs moving I'm not slippage, just creep.

Perhaps it's this, perhaps not. The ECU should not revert or change unless there is a problem, in which case the vag-com fault check should help.

Also worth considering the MAF as this could cause the problems you're seeing.

I had a strange MAF incident this weekend after fitting my Cruise Control - Forgot to reconnect the plug!! How stupid!! :o

I drove it up the road to test the CC and it felt like a non turbo diesel, no check light or anything just no power. Came home plugged in the lappy and it showed the code. Plugged in the MAF again and all is well.

Where are you based Dave - Essex?

I have VAG Com in Hants area - Would be happy to meet up a bit nearer your way if it helps or check the thread at

im havin a simular prop. bought a tunning box few months ago, great really inpressed with performance, couldnt get insured on it so sent it back. just managed to get insurance so bought another exactly the same and not that inpressed as i was before? maybe i was rememberin it faster than what it was?could there bne a prob?

I've got the same "problem" with my Fabia RS, here in Sweden...installed a tuning box...a few weeks ago...now I've got "power dip's" around 2200rpm-2500rpm...mostly when driven into third gear..

In the begining...with the tuning box installed..there were no "power dips" at all :(

But when it reaches 2500rpm...the acceleration begins to act normal again...can feel the dip in some of the other gears to....but the biggest effect of the dip is in third gear..

Heatsoak ;)

Are there anything that I can do...to get the car runing...as good as it did in "the begining" ;)

Have you tried removing the box and seeing if the same problem is still apparent?

Nope..I haven't tried that...

But the "problem" wasn't there at first...I mean when I got the box intstalled...the car felt very good...for..lets say 2000km..then...

When you accelerate...there's that little "dip" between 2200rpm-2500rpm...nothing super serious...but it's a little anoying..;)

I don't think there will be a "dip" without the box...but..I don't know...yet :)

Thanks,

Disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes. This will reset the car's ECU and then go out for a blast in the car with the tuning box attached :D

I thought Ross Clarke already stated this is an urban myth a while ago....

One of the guys had a problem with an A3 with a tuning box fitted, last I heard it was due to clutch slipping.

Anyone have any problems in the Furby when over a certain speed the tuning box causes power loss, makes the car even worse than when in stock mode ?

It wouldnt surprise me if it was an analog tuning box causing it to just smoke at the top-end of the rev range rather than pull hard.

But mine is still standard :)

Chris

that's a ford trick ;)

My "problem" is kind of solved...now

Or you can say, that the car "feels" better now...

Did a simple thing yesterday....don't "tease" me for this one, ok?! :D

I deactivated the ASR...then accelerated up..through the gears...with different speed....just enough, so that the tires wouldn't "spin"..

With the ASR set to OFF...the "power dips" was almost gone...you didn't feel them at all, in certain gears...

Kind of strange...I mean, I've had the ASR set to ON...since I got the car "tuned up"...and that didn't resault in "power dips"....untill a few days/weeks ago...how come?

How come? Is not the main thing...the main thing is that the car feeeeeeels great again ;)

Now I'm going for a "cat-bak exhaust system" + "green cotton" filter + "Cupra-Intake" (if you can get a hold of that here in Sweden)..as soon I can afford all these three "wishes" hehe :D...but...first cupra + filter :)...then in the begining of the autumn...the exhaust-system

Thanks for all help/tips in this excellent forum for my Fabia RS ;)

(Sweden) :D

Ah yes' date=' you're right - [url']http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showpost.php?p=226250&postcount=4[/url]

It will reset any fault codes, however, which means that ECU won't be compensating for anything....

Chris

I'm not too sure about that one either ;) It might turn off the dash lights but I don't think the fault codes will be erased from the data bank.

I have Vag-com so I guess I could test it one day, but it's not really a top priority on my todo list :D

It's a shame Ross left :(

Will disconnecting the battery (to reset ECU) also zero the mileometer or service indicator

Will disconnecting the battery (to reset ECU) also zero the mileometer or service indicator

AFAIK, it only resets the [1] and [2] memories on the trip computer, the clock and the odometer. My service indicator came on on time, despite me having the battery disconnected for a couple of hours :D

Chris

The Haynes Manual for the VW Golf and Bora (2001 - 2003) has some useful info relating to disconnecting the battery, including a warning that the safety function of the electric windows will not be reinstated until the windows have been reprogrammed. For vehicles with central locking, the keys should be removed from the ignition (and car) so that they don't end up locked inside the car if the central locking engages when the battery is reconnected. A note should be made of the security code for the audio unit so that it can be recoded if necessary. 'Learned' settings are lost in the engine ECU which reverts to base factory settings. If the vehicle is equipped with an original anti-theft alarm system, this should be deactivated before disconnecting the battery. And after the battery has been reconnected, the electric window 'closed' positions must be reprogrammed. When starting a petrol engine for the first time after having disconnected the battery, turn the ignition on for 30 seconds then switch off again. The engine may then be started.

Many thanks for your offer

Revo agent did the checks and suspected the MAF unit because the highest reading obtained was 12495 (he said should be 14000) although I have read elsewhere on this forum that there is an upper limit for the sensor anyway although not sure what this is

'Learned' settings are lost in the engine ECU which reverts to base factory settings

Does that mean a remap, custom or not (i.e. AmD/REVO/Jabba) are lost?

Does that mean a remap, custom or not (i.e. AmD/REVO/Jabba) are lost?

Things like the map/remap would be stored in EEPROM.
